Its amazing what is going on in the world, yet what we glimpse of it here in the "civilized" section is only what is chosen for release by media and government. If it doesn't suit the moguls then we don't get to see it for ourselves. If it doesn't affect our resources then there will be no involvement.

Nothing is new under the sun either. This stuff has always gone on, but it is only through the diligence of independent investigative journalists and aid-workers that the news is now filtering back to us across the internet about the crimes against humanity in countries that some people never even heard of.

The problem is that we as individuals have no idea what we can do to help. In a time of recession, we are loathe to keep giving our money to every charity that comes to our door, as much as we would love to. The guy who made the video "Invisible Children" is offering the general mass of online youth a certain action to perform in order to keep Kony in the eye of the Government.

This call to action of the youth is a concern to many. It is possibly mis-directing them in their enthusiasm to fight for a cause. But I think this is a good thing. Not the action itself (which is likely a "fad" ), but the widening of acceptable methods of public demonstration. Einstein said that the definition of insanity is repeating the same action and expecting different results. So perhaps we can at least gain better insight into progressive forms of protest. If we can have demonstrations of non-acceptance of criminal behaviour on an international, national and even a local level through modern technology and social media then perhaps we can be a more progressive society. Its a bit Utopian, I know, but a step in the right direction is something positive in itself.
