Do you polish glass as part of your detailing service?

Its an extra service. Polishing glass down can be very time consuming in some instances. Plus you don't want to cause any damage. Jewellers Rouge is pretty good but there is a new product called Ceriglass which is very good with a cutting pad on the rotary or DA.

Besides applying a basic sealant, I have a local glass specialist do the repairs on glass. They use something like this: [www.gtglass.com]

How much do they charge to repair scratches, Pro-Techt. Just approximately. I'm curious.smiling smiley

I should have qualified that question... This is simple polishing to remove contaminates etc. I was looking at a polishing pad on auto geek and was thinking about purchasing... presently we polish by hand and it gives a brilliant shine to the glass and helps repel water

When I asked my local auto part stores for glass polish they looked at me like i had inhaled too many paint fumes.

Well, in prepping I clay the glass as well as the paint. After, I clean it with either an alcohol glass cleaner, or a glass polish/cream and finally I put Crystal Diamond Glaze on the exterior. It all looks great. But always dress the seals and trim before you clean the glass....

The company I deal with is pretty savy to the glass repair game. They do both auto, commerical and residential glass repairs. They estimate the repair based on the replacement price of the glass. Usually 75% of the replacement cost. There is no competition in this market for this kind of service so they can get away with charging excessive amounts.

That's interesting. I've only seen one or two companies in this neck of the woods doing glass repair.

Back to the original topic about deep cleaning glass, I was using a product today that I forgot to mention. Its one of those "well-kept secret" products that work a treat. "Bar Keepers Friend" on glass is absolutely magic. I'm pretty sure its available in the States. Its an oxalic acid powder that you put on a damp towel. Its great on steel and alumnium as well. Check it out. Why not, its dirt-cheap!!
