INTERIOR DETAILING

The forum is overun with the same long winded discussion on the best sealants, paint perfection, polishing and washing techniques but very little almost nothing on interior detailing.

What none of the paint perfection customers need perfection interior detailing?

Gina

Why do'nt you talk about it? All your posts are questions about what products other detailers use. Write something
useful on the subject. Explain about leather cleaning and preservation . Why some stains are harder to remove than others.

Bill with the exception of you...most here are professional detailer's who already know what to do...so re hashing how to clean leather would be like teaching them how to drink milk...

If you think you would benefit I will be happy to tell you... I ask about products because unlike AT-5 technology changes and new advancements are made in product application as we speak.. So I am always trying to find out if there is a better more effective product available to do the job.

I also ask the questions to stimulate discussion other than AT-5 as it clear we are all going to leave or be slowly driven out of our minds with the incessant discussion on the merits of this AT-5 that continues on an on without any real scientific data besides folklore or your subjective opinion. I am sure it is a great product for you and your customers and perhaps even some of mine...but I still believe your arguments need to be more substantive information rather than anecdotal.

My response is not intended to be unkind or critical of you personally but rather to be constructive...so no need to take offense and write a 1000 word argument in defense of the product... We know it exists, we accept it exists, we know it is good for you., we know your clients are happy and really that is all that matters.

A very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to you and your family.!

I have been thinking about buying a steam cleaner for just this reason Gina. Currently my method of general purpose cleaner, a brush, compressed air and a towel produces very acceptable results. However can a steam cleaner speed up this process giving a detailer more time to really get the car cleaner? It seems every video i see of a steam cleaner being used on say,a door panel, takes forever to clean. Is steam extracted carpet cleaner than extracted carpet? Since detailing is all about the nooks and crannys, anything we can do to better clean those areas faster gives us more time for such things as interior repairs, wich is alot more profitable anyway.

Bill do you know how to clean an interior? Tell us what your process is for shampooing carpets and cleaning leather without damage.

BOB:

Be careful in purchasing a vapor steamer, they have their place but they are not a "solve-all" for interior cleaning.

We sell them, but I tell buyers they are just another tool a professional detailer should have in their arsenal of cleaning tools. I am not a believer in their being the magic solution.

You need

Scrubbie Pads - for vinyl, leather, plastic
Nylon Scrub Brushes
Detail Brushes
Air
Good Vacuum
Good Heated Extractor
Vapor Steamer - our middle of the line steamer is a good value unless you can afford to spend $1295 for the best and want the best.

Just some well intentioned thoughts. If I did not send you data on our 3 steamers send me your email buda@detailplus.com and I will send you a catalog sheet.

Bud Abraham

Gina, why are you really here? All you ever do is ask questions about what other detailers do.I know how to clean leather very well, but I just do not get the point of your posts.

This is a very strange statement. What exactly does your shop use for paint protection? You assume AT-5 is outdated technology with zero facts, and you make this statement: So I am always trying to find out if there is a better more effective product available to do the job. Sorry, it does not compute.

Bud you are really into pissing people off with your posts. My point with Gina is that everything she posts is a question, or a
statement with no purpose like this one. What is the point she is trying to make here is my question.

Why do you have to bring this back to whether I know how to clean a interior, and explain it to you? I noticed that several
of your posts have been banned at autopia detailing forum for this very reason.

Here is an example:

Thoughtful information pertaining to what? Yet again you've failed to think about how you're coming across before posting, and given that your pattern here has been to incite discord in the community it is near impossible to interpret this as anything other than professional grade trolling.

The best piece of advice I can give you, which sadly I know you will ignore, is this:

Before you post something, take yourself away from it first and read it from the perspective of a recipient. If there is even the remotest possibility that it could be interpreted in an unintended manner (such as a veiled insult) then DON'T POST IT. At least try to re-word it so you're not being seen as constantly and consistently rude to (or about) people.

I think that's about enough; I'm tired of wasting time and brain cells feeding the troll... no more.

I really liked this response:

I have just one question for you buda.

Do you have any before, during and after pics of your "Professional" detail work?

If not then S T F U and go back to your lane.

Gina I dont care for interior detailing. exterior trims door seals, paint, wheels and tyres are what I love to work on, not fabrics
thus I rarely talk about interiros

Bud - I totally agree with you about steamers, they can't do everything interior wise and you still need all the things you listed including extractors and rotary shampooers etc
Re: INTERIOR DETAILING
December 27, 2011 02:12PM
I have a lot of use for a steamer. Even though I thoroughly go over the carpet & seats with the extractor, simply running the triangle steam head over them after extraction still removes a certain amount of dirt. It also acts to soak up the shampoo-residue into the MF towel that you wrap around the steam head. Its not the end-all as you definitely need everything else Bud mentioned, but in my opinion it steps up the quality of an interior detail and leaves the entire inside smelling much fresher and neutral (not masked).

Just a side note - those scrubbie pads that Bud mentioned.... I use meshed pads like that to clean wheels. Much more thorough than a brush if you are willing to get down low and put your hand in back of the spokes.

A vacuum and compressed air are invaluable. I used to use a Tornador but I don't like it anymore. I know some people love it, but I have no use for it as it is too limited.

What do you guys do with leather?
Re: INTERIOR DETAILING

whenever I do leather, I just clean with warm water and coat with permanon at 5 to 15% with water
keeps them protected without making them satiny or shiny and also makes them supple without greasy dirt attracting silicones, waxes etc
