V12 Electrics.....

Recently drove 1200 miles in my Series III, from France, to Alicante, Spain. Lovely drive .... but .... the alternator went on the way down. Got a replacement fitted in Spain, a "universal" type. Original was Butec 14V 65 A. New one works well, starts crisply, its 14V, 105 amp. Broke down twice on the return journey, day one after 450 miles, day 2 after 250. Both times consistent with alternator gone again! No spark, but lots of juice in the battery to turn the starter. Battery charging indicator in the red etc. Both times..... after 10/15 minutes, up it fired, and carried on for the rest of the day no preblems. Any ideas? Is there a relay somewhere (that I'm not aware of) that is sticking? Should I change the voltage regulator? Something I should do because of the difference in amperage? Any suggestions gratefully received.

One other thing ........... it is a 2+2, prefer to the open top, and it turned heads all the way from Alicante to Brittany. Sure you all know what I mean....

Thanks & regards. Vince Gavin. 1971 2+2
