E Type model year

Years ago, I spotted a white E-Type and am trying to determine it's model year. The only distinguishing think about it was the shifter; short, stubby, fitting perfectly in my hand.

Is this familiar to anyone?

That's not much of a clue. All the E-Type shifters I've seen are not short and stubby. It sounds like the owner purposely cut down the shifter.
