Is this a deal?

I'm writing you from Geneva Switzerland. I was having some work done at a local paint shop and I see a car sitting under a pile of dust. It turns out to be a 72 Pontiac GTO. (I think?) The owner says it's a Swiss GTO (speedo in kms) and it hasn't been on the road for about 8-10 years. I took down some numbers.
VIN is 2D37T2P136879. Data plate says ST 72-23537 P TR 273 A51 11E 57T
I'd like to know if it's a real GTO and aprox what it's worth. Apparently it has 55k miles, black int (not original but in near perfect cond from a donor car) 400 cid with an auto trans. He also said that the previous owner told him the engine was rated at 350 horse? Is this a load of BS? I might be able to get it for 5000 swiss francs. Around 3700 USD. Is this a deal? Should I run and buy it tomorrow 'cause I've found one of those rare deals that we all hear about or dream about? (I have my doubts) I would really appreciate any knowledgable advice. I know quite a bit about Mustangs as I own a 1966 convertible but nothing about GTO's but I love the design. Thanks

Here's a link for decoding the VIN: [www.yearone.com]

2D37T2P136879
2=Division
D=Series (LeMans)
37=2 door coupe
T=400 4-bbl V8 250 hp (dual exhaust) (strong motor for that year)
2=1972
P=assembled in Pontiac, MI (5 miles from me!)
136879=36,879th produced

Get the engine code from the right front pad below the head, above the timing chain cover. It should be a 2-character code.

Get the head casting code off the center exhaust port. Approx. 3/4" tall cast characters (2 or 3) - can't miss 'em.

The guys on this group will gladly research this engine for you based on this information.
