With my washing down twice with NCP what do you suggest I follow up with?by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Hi Ron: Update:It took an overnight cure to take care of the fogging. I don't know why this happened but all I can think of is that there was some sort of chemical reaction between OC and the solvent. Even though I was very thorough, I think something remained behind other than the strong smell of solvent. This might explain why the surface was much slicker during the application than applyby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I have had that problem with the foam pads from Mequiar's as well.by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Yes, sir, the car was perfectly clean before I started to polish, solvent, then OC. The car is black, so the only time the car gets washed/waxed is the late afternoon or early morning, sometimes waxed before the sun comes up. Most of the time I blowdry after the washby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Not sure by what you mean "the water used in washing"? Did I miss a step?by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Hi Ron: I am here in SoCal, Torrance area, and we are not experiencing alot or any more than normal amount of humidity. This area does not experience a great deal of humidity unless just after a storm. This fogging I should not be happing. After the application it should be clear. Should I be waiting for a few days, will this disappear after a period of time?by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Is there a shelf life to a solvent. I used some New Car Prep that I have had sitting on the shelf for quite a while now and decided to clean a panel on my vehicle before the application of a sealant. I made sure the solvent had flashed and I wiped it numerous times to make sure there was not residue. After the application what I noticed was the whole panel now is fogging up. It wipes away easby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I am so anal about this, since I've gone through this process once, then to have to polish it down and then to have flaws. I made sure it flashed before proceeding to Opti-Coat. I wiped it down numerous times because you could see it flash under the lighting. Went through a couple of towels wiping it down. Now I am seeing the whole panel fogged up. Its like you see the bathroom mirrors foby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I have some ValuGuard "N" New Car Prep and I want to strip any possible oils or wax to prep the surface for a sealant. I don't remember if I use it straight or diluted. Thanksby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I have a black vehicle that had a quarter panel repainted. Even though I've waited 3 mos.,it is still softer than factory. I find I am polishing out fine scratches more often than I am the factory paint. I also know that the repaint is thiner than factory and that I will eventually polish away the paint. So what I would like to do is just apply a filler to this area. Meguiar's M66by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Thanks, Doug, that was helpful. I have the problem with just the rear brakes, since they are the only ones complaining. I've thought about going to someone and having them loosen the bolt, but this gives me an excuse to buy another tool. And this is a tool I will probably use often, considering that I can remove the lug nuts on wheels in less than half the time. Also I don't like reby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Problem is I don't have much room and with the breaker bar I didn't have much leverage. I am up against suspension and the bottom of the wheel well and rocker panel and was starting to round off the bolt, to decided to go with impact driver or wrench, once I figure out the difference.by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I have run into situations where I cannot muscle off a bolt, such as a brake bolt located on the inside. (I am doing a brake job on a G35) I have heard some impact drivers(wrenches) are not worth it. Anybody have one and would they recommend it? Its pretty tight behind the brakes and so I am thinking a cordless might be too bulky and I won't be able to get a hold on the bolt with the impby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Like paint, I've always wondered why with all the small surface scratches and marring on chrome, such as door handles, why can't it be polished out as paint can. It would seem to require different products and technique, obviously, but as yet I haven't seen anybody do it.by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I ended up going to my local body shop and he was nice enough to apply some heavy duty 3M adhesive to the molding. His experience is that he has customers come back because the molding is hanging down or just plain not working. I hope that is not the case with me. He has talked to the distributors of 3M and they say it is the same product the manufacturers use, go figure. So what he does, is buby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I made a call to the local Nissan dealership here and he had never had to order any adhesive, they just ordered the molding. He said the adhesive comes with the molding. He can't access the data base, but if I could get him a part number he would be glad to order it for me. Made a call to the Infiniti people and they said any kind of double sided tape, almost got the feeling that he neverby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I was thinking that Ifiniti might be using something else for their molding, especially ones that are located just behind the wheels. The dealer just said to use automotive glue, but I am not sure which one is the strongest, so I don't have to repeat the procedure every year or so.by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Does anybody have a recommendation for a molding adhesive? Thanksby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Okay, so I am going to ask this question. What would you do if you were in my situation? I have been told, even before going to the question of the paint being too soft, that the paint is dull when compared to the factory painted areas. It just doesn't have the shine. I have been to two body shops and also one professional detailer, and they have all looked at the car and examined the paby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
So here is the latest news, but not the last. Before I went on vacation, I tried to get hold of the claims adj., but she wouldn't return my calls. After I came back I tried again with the same deal, but finally got someone else who returned my call right away. Anyway I explained my problem, and it was like talking to microsoft or a software company. It couldn't be the body shop, mayby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Okay. So, do I go with the claims adjuster idea, that I leave the car at the body shop and he will drop by to discuss it with the shop manager. OR, forget that and go with the 3 quotes? OR do I do both?by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Just a quick update. I called the insurance company and said I was unhappy and what procedure do I need to follow to get my problem resolved. They wanted to make a three party call with the body shop, but I declined, since I had already talked with him, I wanted an alternative method. The insurance co. said to drop the car off at the body shop and the claims adjuster would go over it with theby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Wow, another good suggestion. You are correct, Bud, these are the areas that were repainted. That's what I love about this site, good people, helping people in need.by oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Hi Bud: I don't have a problem getting out the scratches. When I am done the paint is near perfect, scratch free, and this is before I add any protection. After I wash the car, it will take me about an hour, per panel, to get them all out with the help of an inspection light and my rotary. We're talking, the rear bumper, trunk lid, the quarter panel and passenger door. I will be forby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Thanks Bud and Doug. So,here is my experience at the body shop/shops. I stopped in at the shop that did the painting, but the manager was not due in until later. While waiting in the lobby a guy comes in looking for Juan the manager and was told he would be in shortly. I see the guy has a ppg shirt on and so I ask him if he supplies paint for the shop and he says yes. (I found out earlier thaby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Thanks Bud for the response. It has been my intention all along to go back to the body shop, I just wanted some professional info. in my pocket before I go back. Knowing them, they would say, it looks fine to them, its something I'm doing, or something out of left field that I might be unprepared to respond to. Since 5-11, I've been trying to get one of the Sikkens guys out, and each time (3X), he was a no show. So finally today the manager at Sikkens says he did some research and discovered they haven't sold paint to this particular body shop since 2003. So he suggested I take some nail polish or a tinner and rub an area, to see if the paint gets soft. The only other thing to do is go backby oli - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I finally got around to getting to the body shop before the man in the know left for the day. Thus far I know that the paint was Sikkens. I talked to someone in the company who will attempt to set up an examination of my car. We will see what goes from here.
