Guys, I just spotted something I haven't heard of before in odour remediation. A Hydroxyl Generator... It seems to be safer / kinder / easier than Ozone Generators but at first glance, it looks expensive. I never really trust particle generators, whether ozone or foggers, etc. I do use a fogger but only after a targetted treating, flushing and extraction of the source of the odourby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Thanks Doug. Thanks for reviving the forum with some points for discussion. I like the tip to sharpen a plastic card for popping tar. Can you elaborate on the use of fabric softener sheets? I haven't heard of it before and can't see the purpose...by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Sometimes it is as efficient to take the seats out and do the job thoroughly than to try work the narrow gaps and crevices. But like Doug says, you need to watch out for air-bags, etc. For example, if you don't unhook a BMW from its battery for about two hours before hand, you will get air-bag warning lights on the dash. I use a compressor with Tornador and a steamer to get rid of the gby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I've used the towel a bit and its great. I would use it mostly on fast exterior maintenance and polish packages. For more intensive details, Clay is definitely still required. The towel doesn't clean as deeply. Mind you, the Valugard ABC process is the best when used with a clay bar. In my opinion, anyway. I use the clay with the B stage.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Microsplitters are becoming very popular with detailers on this side of the world. They are very effective and yet very neutral. Its hard to explain, but its a more pure and clean finish on fabric and carpet. They are from the carpet-cleaning sector and they chemists there seem to be more clued in on how to efficiently clean dirt out of carpets and upholstery, probably because of the scale of thby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I'm using microsplitters to clean carpets and upholstery now. Really speeds up the whole process. Get rid of the dry dirt, treat the oil-based stains and then spray the interior soft-surfaces with microsplitters, leave for 15 mins and then rinse with fresh water in the extractor. I agitate the surfaces first with a certain mini air-powered brush from Detail Plus.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Doug, you should also read any or all books by the late Robert Anton Wilson. Another writer who will make you question, question, question.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I use the towel, Bud. Its way faster than a clay bar and doesn't make marks any more than a clay bar would. Its a good invention. Definitely a step in the right direction.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I ordered one of these. Its actually costing me double as Bud must have kissed the Blarney Stone at some time. He has the "gift of the gab" and I rang the USA with my mobile phone!! Ha Ha! Big bill coming in this month! I'm looking forward to using it, Bud. I will let you know how it goes. It was good to talk to you as well. Happy 4th of July.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Ken, I'm a few thousand miles away across the atlantic but I would say if you have room for the big tank, then invest in that. Better to have too much than too little and perhaps also you won't need to be filling it up every day. For a buffing service, start off gently with a gloss enhancement service. Check what type of clients you get in your area. Perhaps you just need a safe DAby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Hi guys, I'm thinking of moving shop to the town where I actually live. But I'm concerned about the population size which is about 5000 people. It would cut out stuff like commute time & fuel expenses, etc... plus I'm closer if there are any emergencies on the home front! Do any of you guys operate in low-density population areas? Iron X or Iron X Soap Gel is fantastic on bugs. Trix is also available now, which is a Tar Remover/IronX hybrid. So you've got everything you want in one bottle. These are from a company called CarPro. Other than that, I use Maxolen Sticky Stuff & Tar Remover which is Terpene-based and lovely to work with. I avoid anything with Xylene in it. Naphtha is a nice little liquid on tar, asby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Permanon autoshine is mediocre on paint but it is amazing on glass. It refuses to smear even with towels that have been used before. I think the small bottle makes about 4 litres but I have the mixture in a small spritzer bottle - trust me, a little goes a long way and you literally can't see the glass. Very economical.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Sales reps can be so full of BS! They call into me periodically - cold calls, basically, after doing google searches, etc for local professionals - but I usually end up training them on their own products as they don't have a clue other than the BS that somebody gave them at the "induction training". In a way, its good as it gives me an insight into the company as well as theby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
LOL, no I'm not from Australia either. You are thinking of the member SVR. No harm though.... Wish I was in Oz right now actually! Its amazing what is going on in the world, yet what we glimpse of it here in the "civilized" section is only what is chosen for release by media and government. If it doesn't suit the moguls then we don't get to see it for ourselves. If it doesn't affect our resources then there will be no involvement. Nothing is new under the sun either. Hi guys, I've been doing a few pre-sale commercial vehicle details recently. The recession is hitting many trade people and so they are either selling their assets, down-sizing or emigrating - some are doing all three unfortunately. I did an electrician's Mitsubishi 4x4 a few days ago. What a mess - years of smoking, never cleaned apart from the rare vacuum cleaning I reckon. Will Ozone kill a growth of mold as effectively as an applied chemical? I just got the feeling that it will get the surface of the mold, but the underlying growth would return in the presence of any further moisture.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
You said it, Gina. Spent many a day chasing orange juice or coffee down into the foam. It is pretty absorbent stuff. Nice to see you back.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Hi guys, I'm not in possession of an Ozone generator, Bud, so that isn't an option. I tried the original process but it didn't go exactly to plan. The filter was in an stupid awkward place and it was too much trouble to access it properly! When I collected the car, it smelled pretty bad actually. But dropping it back, I was getting no trace of bad odour. Hopefully it wilby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Thanks for that, Ketch. I understand what you are saying. It would probably be a better idea not to let the seat too wet then. Maybe steam cleaning and rapid-drying is a better approach if you need a quick turnaround.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
We have all had seats that get that ugly water-mark when they dry. What are your tips for seats when you find the dirt has permeated the fabric and then wicks back up when it gets damp. Do you have an easy-fix surface solution or do you prefer to just go after the dirt down in the cushioning?by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Guys, Without doing major dismantling, what is the MOST thorough way you have for treating mold in air conditioning? I have one specific car in a few days that needs a serious bit of odour treatment. The cabin air filter has just been changed so the odour is obviously down in the fins. The interior will have been detailed and shampooed as well. Bill, first about the paint analogy..... whatever.... you know the point I was trying to make so you just come across as rude when you disect like that. I have painted many, many things in my life. I just don't let my house get so shabby as to have paint flaking off the walls. But regarding me and what I do, DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS.
