I knew a guy that was in the tank corp, and he decided that for a inspection that he should have a shiny tank . He wiped it down with baby oil to make it shine . He got in a little trouble , they told him that tanks are not supposed to shine ..Another friend of mine was in the army and had a Jeep . He also liked shiny cars so he rubbed the Jeep down with rubbing compond by hand and then waxed itby Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I use mineral spirits or kerosene. Kerosene is oily and works best with a lot of tar. It should be washed off with soap and water. Most of the time I use mineral spirits.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Ive seen cars that were 6 or 7 years old , that were washed often ,garage kept, and never were polished , waxed or seal and they still look great. I conclude the a garage is the best protection. I wax or polish for the looks . Protection for me is how long the look last.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Im sorry , I didnt explain my self. Im not talking about coating for glass. I talking about glass like coating for paint, like Opti-coat and Opti-guard. There are a few others that I cant think of the names , but one has the word Quartz in the name. You guys are right about Aquapel it is the best for glass.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
What is everybody thinking on these new glass coatings ie opt-coat and others that are supposed to last a very long time. I think that there based on Sodium Silicate which is also called Waterglass.Any opinions?by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

I dont think that Towgt is saying that you need 4 coats of 4 different products. Hes just listing the durability of 4 different products from best to worst. He also mentions arcylics, and he does say its the best , but none of the products are perfect.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I may be wrong but I though that the reason one puts carnuba wax over a sealant is because of the better look that carnuba gives. The sealant gives the durability and the carnuba gives the look.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
The compound hazed the paint .You have to use a finer compound before the polish. Meguiars #105 or Ultimate first and then # 205 or Swirl X. That should do the trick.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I like to know too , since I have Ford.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
When I was a kid we just sprayed kerosene on the engine and rinsed it off with high pressure water. I know that we cant do that anymore. We cleaned the floor in the gas station with kerosene and power washed it off.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
AT-5 protection may last 1 year or 5 years, but the just waxed look wont last 3 months.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bill, you ask what I ment by seal .I ment a SEALANT. I said wax, polish, seal, just to cover everthing that you would call putting something on paint.I myself is a big user of spraywaxes/qds. That way my car shines all the time , and it takes about 10 minutes to do after a wash.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I wax/seal/polish my car for the looks that the product provides. I do not care for protection. I see cars all the time that never got any wax or sealant, and just washed often that still look very good . If you need protection get a garage. My main concern is how long the luster will last after I do my car.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
A friend of mine just took his car to a pro detailer and paid $189.00 for a complete detail , including engine, interior, buff and wax , and he is very happy and thinks the money is well spent. The car does look great.by Larry A - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
