1992 Sunburst Yellow Miata - SOLD
Change (except maybe from a vending machine!) is inevitable, so we have decided to sell our 1992 Sunburst Yellow Miata.
It is in great condition and it is our hope that it goes to a good home within the Miata community.
Comes with a four point Autopower roll bar and padding. It has been run at track days at Laguna Seca, Willow Springs and Streets of Willow.
The paint is in good shape with a few scratches and nicks here and there. It was repainted in the original Sunburst Yellow about 10 years ago. I had a dent repair person go through it so it is in good shape as far as dents go. The windshield was replaced about three years ago.
Left: Momo Steering Wheel, is installed. Right: Stock Miata steering wheel / airbag, also comes with the car.
As originally sold, it was an automatic. The previous owner converted it into a five speed, but it still has the automatic specification engine. The automatic engine has slightly less horsepower but more low end torque than the typical five speed motors but it is not a difference you would notice. The intake and exhaust is stock.
The clutch flywheel is a Fidanza aluminum, with a weber dual friction clutch. Clutch action is nice and light with no clutch chatter. Shock absorbers are Koni adjustable currently in the soft setting for a comfortable ride. Sway bars are from Racing Beat with a Racing Beat front subframe brace. It has always run cool and has never overheated. The alternator was recently replaced.
It has a nice Alpine CDA-9885 stereo which sounds very good with an iPod connector. The iPod connector has an adapter that allows recent generation 3GS and 4 iPhones to charge with it. There is a trunk located amplifier, (I don't have the manufacturer or model) and Nakamichi/Tannoy/Aura Bass shakers speakers. I recall an occasional rattle with the right speaker so it may have to be replaced. It also has JVC headrest speakers and an electric antenna. The power windows work well; the driver's side motor was recently replaced.
Equipped with air conditioning which blows nice and cold.
Left: Top is from Robbins and is in good condition. Right: We've owned it since about the 124,000 mile point; the listed miles at 158,478 is correct. Since it is a 19 year old car, that works out to about 8,340 miles per year, which puts it in the category of "low mileage".
The car is in great shape and runs excellent with great reliability, I would not hesitate to get in it and drive it to New York for example. It has always been owned by a SDMC (San Diego Miata Club) or SOCALM (Southern CA Miatas) club member.
Pollinator gets around 26 mpg. We've recorded every fill-up we've ever done; kind of an anal thing we do. Click here for the fillup listing.
Included is a Sunbrella car cover from
Big Sky Car Covers. Sunbrella is "The ultimate fabric for intense sun environments." It's a custom fit for the Miata and in our experience is good for 10 years of constant use. The only disadvantage is that since it is of a very rugged material, it takes up a fair amount of room in the trunk of a Miata.
Above: Comes with the original "Turtle" Miata wheels that are in good condition. Tires are Dunlop SP Sport R2 P185/60 R14 purchased by us about three years ago.
Comes with original owners manual and emergency key in vinyl pouch.
A couple of negative points, since I believe in being straightforward about these things:
It has a salvage title. Apparently it was in an accident with the previous owner. It was a minor incident. Like in so many other cases, the damage, although minor, was more than the insurance company thought the car was worth and it was declared a total. I can tell you it drives and runs fine, with even tire wear so no evidence of any problems from the accident.
From the previous owner, the story behind the title:
The damage was from rear ending a large Chevrolet sedan with a steel bumper. There was no frame, wheel or suspension damage to the Miata so I decided to fix it. The damages exceeded the then insured wholesale value (approximately $4,000.) of the car so I paid the difference and fixed it anyway. The hood, right front fender, bumper, radiator, headlights and airbag were all replaced with new Mazda factory parts. The original paint wasn't in very good shape so at that time the entire car was painted.
Even though I choose to repair the car, my former insurance company created the salvage title without contacting me, the damage was done and there was nothing I could do to clear the title. After that bad experience with our old "discount" insurance company we switched to AAA Insurance and they never questioned the title. We later insured with Farmers and they never questioned it either. It's treated the same as any other '92 Miata.
The other is a starting issue. I would say about 10% of the time the starter balks and you have to hit the "start" mode with the key and it will always start after three or four tries. More of a nuisance than anything else. I've tried quite a few fixes (as did the previous owner) including four different starter motors. I was planning on adding a outboard solenoid which is a common cure for this situation but have not gotten around to it.
