<HTML>Jerry..rail dust is aslo called Ferrous metal.

Ferrous metal particles (hot iron dust) are generated by manufacturing facilities , rail shipments etc. These particles mechanically bond to a vehicles painted surfaces. Moisture and temperature combine with particles to create a chemical reaction. This reaction creates an acid , causing the iron to corrode and enter the paint surface.

Description .

Light colored vehicles : Small orange staisn the size of mechanical pencil lead, the surface is rough to the touch.

Dark colored vehicles: Small white or silver appearing dots with a rainbow ring around the dot. The surface is rough to the touch.

All of the above information is from Ford Motor Company.

<HTML>Rail dust is caused by transit, usually caused by the steel wheels of the rail cars against the rails. It takes the form of microscopic steel slivers whic imbed in the fine cracks of the paint and rust causing the tell tale red-brown spots. It usually is found on the top surfaces and the hip areas of the vehicle and is easilly removed with a fallout remover such as Productions "Future Wash' or Car Brites "Fallout Remover II", or "Fallout Gel". Avoid using the old method which recomends a clay Bar. A clay bar will remove only the tops of the slivers, leaving the remainder imbedded in the paint to eventually resurface and once again rust. Remember after completely removing fallout to use a good quality sealant and protect the finish.</HTML>
