<HTML>Any idea how to get hardened gum off leather seats? Also, when leather seats are really dirty is it ok to use a soft bristle brush to scrub the leather cleaner in? Thanks.</HTML>

<HTML>You can remove gum with Mottsenbocker's Lift Off #2. Great product.

If you do not scrub too hard it will be ok. Keep in mind that the dye/paint on leather can be worn off, and heavy scrubbing is a sure fire way to accomplish that.

Use a lo pH cleaner and a better scrubber is the scrubbie pad. A sponge covered with a teflon net. Provides abrasivness but no danger to the leather.

<HTML>Perclore or the banned in California solvent ,TR-III, will easily desolve the gum.

However, to obtain the perclore in pure form requires the "knowing of a dry cleaner", other wise, you must find a "special cleaning solvent" with a percentage of the perclore.

Just put it on the gum, let it set and watch it break into a powder.

Then clean the area with a non-butyl all purpose cleaner.

Will the dye in the leather be affected, that's a crap shoot for sure.

Do it right or don't do it all!

Gentlemen-
Here's an addition to this old thread :

Home Remedy Method : Chill the gum with an ice cube and scrape off as much as you can. Then heat with a hair dryer or a heat gun and towel with a detergent solution or a product approved for leather ( Awesome All Purpose Cleaner, for instance is available at dollar stores ).
Dress the leather to hide any discoloration as much as possible.
