clear coat

Just Purchased a new car....the surface, in one section had "puckering", little bubbles in the Paint/coat...Took back to the dealer, they sanded (800 grit) the imperfections out and waxed it...Said this is good enough..Brand new car, clear coat does diminsih the effects of oxidation and protect against UV...Feeling is it should be applied. Any thoughts??

Speaking with the representatives of Akzo-Sikkens we have learned that a factory-applied clear-coat has only 1.5 mils of clear. A mil is 1/1000th of an inch.

They are not sprayed for wet/dry sanding, simply too thin. The car manufacturers warn buffers not remove more than .03 to .05 of a mil when buffing.

The only time you can sand a clear is in the aftermarket where the paint shop will apply at least 2.75 mils of clear because they know it will be sanded.

The dealership has compromised the clear coat of your new car and I would engage an attorney and ask them for a new car. Your clear has been severely compromised and will wear prematurely.
