For those of you who have employees be advised that at least 10 states are going to increase their Minimum Wage in 2012.
Of the more than 50 US States and Territories 16 now have a Minimum Wage higher than the Federal Minimum Wage of $7.25 per hour.
The State of Washington will have the highest Minimum Wage at $9.04 per hour in 2012, followed by Oregon at $8.80 per hour.
Something to be aware of in the coming year if you have or plan to hire employees.
Check the Labor laws in your State to be sure you are in compliance because calling a person an "independent contractor" and issuing a 1099 at the end of the year does not make that person an independent contractor.
Worse yet, if they get injured while working at your shop or for you you can bet the Labor Commissioner's Office will be down on you faster than bear's on honey.
As well, the IRS can get you for back taxes, etc.
