discharged battery

hello all- as a newcomer, have just heard about this group, so thought would use to seek advice.
Have a well restored series I E type. Recent battery, well maintained.
Battery now accepts charge but car appears not to maintain the charge.
What is most likely culprit, eg:
"leaking" (discharging) battery
failure of generator
other?

What is simplist way to test/diagnose?

<HTML>Do you have access to a voltmeter, preferably a DMM (Digital Multi Meter)?

If so, measure the voltage at the battery with the engine off. Then start the car and with an idle of about 3000 RPM, measure the voltage again. It should be more than a volt higher than with the engine off.

If the voltage is the same, you probably have a generator problem. If not, the battery is the suspect.

thanks- was a small voltage drop so suspect is generator , as you suggest.
