irregular tach reading

I have a 1967 series 1 coupe and at times the tach needle will jump up and down or be delayed on the Smith's guage,

The engine doesn't seem to misfire during these events and it may last a minute or less.The tach was replaced 11,000 miles ago.

Any ideas?
