GTO question
May 14, 2004 05:19AM
Can anyone tell me what the G-T-O letters stand for?
Our 12 year old grandson asked us that question today, and although both Gramps and I grew up in the muscle car era, we were both at a loss to answer his question.

Thanks in advance for you help,
Sherril

Gran Turrismo Omolagto, or Gas Tires and Oil=)

gran turismo omologato = italian for grand touring and 'homologated ' for racing. first used by ferrari. generaly a big powerfull car, but still comfortable enough for longer trips("touring"). But "gas, tires and oil" is probably a better description.

Hey all,
Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.
I will pass it along to my grandson.

I have a '64 Ford Galaxie with a 390 and 4 barrel, and
it could qualify for the "Gas Tires and Oil" definition too,
especially when we kick in the four barrel! But it sure
does feel nice to cruise along in the old dog. They're
just so much more car than the new ones.

Thanks again,
Sherril
