400bb HELP! OVERHEATING!
May 31, 2005 01:12AM
Please I need some help. I recently rebuilt a 1970 400 bb and put it into my 67 lemans. I bored it 30 and placed forged pistons. New cam (HO cam) and replaced the points with a delco-remmy dist set at 9deg . Problem: I am running about 210 (temp) while cruising on a 75 deg day and when I come to a stopsign It goes to 220. Today after taking a 50 mile cruise it went to 240 when I shut it off. It has a new water pump and a 190 thermoustat. The radiator has been gone thru and is fresh. What to do?

Tim,
Take a look at this forum page: [forums.performanceyears.com].
I had a similiar problem and did the water pump trick, as described in the above forum, and replaced the fan clutch.
I live in Florida and my 68 GTO runs at 180 no air and 190-195 with the A/C on in 95 degree heat. I hope this helps. Regards, Dave
