WHEN IT COMES TO PMD YOU MIGHT SEE ALL THINGS FROM THE FACTORY.
WHEN I WAS A KID MY DAD BOUGHT A NEW 1957 STARCHIEF 4 DOOR HARDTOP. AFTER A HEAD GASKET LEAKED AND FILLED THE CYLINDER WITH WATER. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND PULLED THE HEAD. THE MECH
THERE SAW SOMETHING NOT QUITE RIGHT AND DECIED TO CALL THE FACTORY. LATER THAT WEEK 3 MEN FROM GM CAME AND FIXED THE THE CAR.

IT TURNED OUT THAT THE ENGINE THAT WAS PUT IN THIS CAR WAS NOT
THE ORIGNAL THAT CAME STANDARD BUT A 400 ENGINE THAT WASNT EVEN MADE YET. TURNS OUT THAT SOMEONE GOOFED AND PUT IN A EXPIRMENTAL ENGINE IN IT.
. BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

HEY I TALKED TO MY DAD ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID IT WAS NOT A A 400 ENGINE IT WAS HE THOUGHT A 370 CUBIC ENGINE FROM A BONNIEVILLE.

SORRY ABOUT THE MIX UP.

HE CLAIMS THAT DELOREN HIMSELF CAME TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND HE MET HIM.

Royal Pontiac had the exclusive license to sell dealer intalled 428's in their Royal Bobcat GTO and Firebird. I had a 67 Bobcat with such a set up.
Sold it when the wife became pregnant with our son. I have NO regrets.

My parents bought a 1967 GTO at Stephens Pontiac in Daytona in Sept 1966 with a Factory 428.The dealer did not install the engine the Factory did.

Hi guys. I'm installing a 1968 428 in my 66 GTO and ran into a problem with the pilot bearing as the size that fits my 389 is too big to fit in the 428 crank. Has anyone an idea what the correct bearing number might be ? It looks like everything else will be good just the pilot bearing. I have three engines a 69 350 and two 389s and they all have the same size bore. The 428 is different in that the outside demension of the correct bearing would be about .028" smaller than the ones that fit a 66 model 389. Thanks ........... Slipshod

I remember this bogus post when it first hit here back in 2003. Seems every month back then someone was posting finding the "holy grail" in GTO rarity, just sitting in a garage or under a tree. Just lonely people looking to be at the center of attention for a while. There was this one, a factory 455HO 1969 GTO, a 73 SD455 GTO, and slew of "never happened" cars. Bizarre.
