Virus Alert / computer security

Members !
If you have an older version of Internet Explorer, it may be vulnerable to the following virus : CVE-2005-1790, which I encountered recently, when opening the forum message page. It is a denial of service type virus that fills your temporary internet files with junk causing the computer to crash. It is Javascript based.
If you ever open a page anywhere and your computer begins clicking and clacking wildly and attempting to open another site page, hit control/alt/delete and click END TASK when the dialog box appears. If that fails, restart your computer. Then purge all cookies, temporary internet files, history etc. Run an anti-virus scan to see that it is gone. Anti-virus scans are available free online and are a double-check on whatever anti-virus system you have already.
I suspect likely infected sites include game sites, porn sites, MySpace pages ( same kind of attack hit me there ) and You-Tube posts. I avoid sites I suspect are risky.
You can run a more secure browser, turn off features like Javascript, and avoid opening mystery emails and files to improve security.
Some services provide protection from spyware, viruses, spam and include a firewall all in one package.
Do not click on pop-ups and pop-unders, especially those offering to get rid of spyware !
Report any viruses on the forum to Paul, the web-master by email. One member posted on Mobileworks, asking if the "Trojan Bug" was still on this forum, though I'm not sure what he is referring to.

Thanks Larry and Doug for getting back to me.

I'm not sure what is going on, especially since I re-installed new Phorum software and I looked over the source code and I don't see any sign of anything that shouldn't be there.

Larry: does the trojan alert come when you look at the page listing the various message boards, the page with the list of messages or the page with the messages themselves (this one)?.

I have a friend who is much more familiar with the situation than I; I'll ask him what he thinks.

Thanks muchly!
Yesterday, I experianced the same problem with a different browser with Javascript enabled. The computer began clicking away and I restarted it. My anti-virus software found nothing. If you disable Javascript, you block the viruses.

Thanks for the input.

I'm using a Mac, which means that I don't see virus warnings. This saves me the hassle of anti-virus techniques, but the downside is that I am not aware of any problems should they arise.

I did purchase Norton's Internet Security software and installed it on the Windows machine that my wife uses and which is kept around just for such purposes. And I did see a warning the first time I visited the message board. The strange thing is that was the only time I saw the warning! Subsequent visits did not display a warning. Not sure why.

At any rate, I did install an upgraded version of the Phorum software. I also have left off, at least temporarily, a feature that allows me to display banners such as mastheads, It was also how I ran the Google ads. Some of my research has indicated that this feature could have triggered the virus alerts.

So are the virus alerts being seen by others? Please let me know as I do want the Phorum to be a useful and safe place for all. Feel free to respond to this post or to email me.

Thanks!
