Some of the cheap spray on 'rustproofings' turn brown after a while and look terrible. I have used Rustoleum (brush on is better), and a rubber coating designed for tool handles with good results.

Just make sure you wash the fenderwells good, SCRUBBING with a brush and Castrol Super Clean before painting or coating. That way you aren't painting dirt that will fall off, or worse, trapping in dirt/salt etc that can cause rust.
