Is this statement true?:

1966 GTO / Bonneville / Catalina engines the same as a 1968 Firebird (350) seeing as there was no such thing as a big block?

Beg your pardon for my ignorance!

Also, will this bolt onto by 1968 Firebird?

1973 GTO/LEMANS HOOD TO COWL SEAL FOUND

I HAVE TWO {2} 1973 PONTIAC GTO'S...ONLY 4,806 WERE MADE...SO MANY PARTS COMPANIES DO NOT MAKE CERTAIN PARTS.

I FOUND THIS TRUE OF THE "HOOD TO COWLING SEAL". THEY MAKE THEM FOR ALL THE PRIOR YEARS, BUT THESE ARE FROM 54" TO 59 INCHES LONG...MUCH TOO SHORT IN LENGTH FOR THE 73 GTO/LEMANS.

THE HOOD TO COWLING ON A 73 GTO/LEMANS IS "65 INCHES LONG". AFTER A LOT OF RESEARCH, I ACTUALLY FOUND AN ALMOST IDENTICAL MATCH

PLEASE READ THE BELOW COMMENTS ON WHERE TO LOCATE THIS PARTICULAR SEAL...AND ALSO HOW I FOUND COWLING CLIPS THAT ACTUALLY FIT THE COWLING HOLES FOR THE 1973 PONTIAC GTO.

AFTER CHECKING MANY ON-LINE SITES & SPEAKING WITH DIFFERENT PERSONS ON THESE SITES...ONE HELPFUL PERSON SUGGESTED I CONTACT "SOFTSEAL.COM" AND SUPPLIED THIER PH# 1-800-426-0902.

AS ALWAYS, THEY ASK FOR THE MAKE & MODEL...& THEN REPLIED THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A "COWLING SEAL" FOR A 1973 GTO....NO SURPRISE...I'M USED TO THAT RESPONSE...BUT, THEN, AND THIS IS A FIRST...THE OPERATOR SUGGESTED I CHECK THEIR "UNIVERSAL PRODUCTS"...THAT SMALL COMMENT LED ME TO WHAT I NEEDED.

THE SUBSEQUENT PRODUCT PHOTOS I REVIEWED, LED ME TO AN ALMOST IDENTICAL SIDE VIEW AND EXACT DIMENTIONS THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR

...ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS NOTED THAT "SOFTSEAL" SELLS THIS COWLING SEAL IN 10 FOOT LENGTHS...WELL OVER THE 65 INCHES REQUIRED...BEFORE, ALL I COULD FIND WERE SEALS THAT WERE TOO SHORT...NOW I'M BEING OFFERED A SEAL WAY TOO LONG...SO I ASKED IF I COULD HAVE THE LENGTH INCREASED TO 11 FEET...GIVING ME ENOUGH COWLING SEAL TO ACTUALLY DO TWO CARS.

{PERSONALLY, I THINK THEY WILL OFFER IT IN A SHORTER LENGTH, BY THE FOOT, IF YOU ASK...SO I COULD HAVE ASKED FOR 6 FOOT, AT A LOWER PRICE} DOESN'T HURT TO ASK. ANYWAYS, I ORDERED 11 FEET, SINCE I HAVE TWO 73 GTO'S.

I THEN WENT ON-LINE TO EBAY AND ORDERED "COWLING CLIPS...COST $ 12.00...ONLY TO ARRIVE & BE WAY TOO THICK TO FIT MY 73 GTO COWLING HOLES. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN HAMMER INTO THE HOLE....{THAT WAS $ 12.00 WASTED}

I THEN WENT TO "LOWES" HOME IMPROVEMENT...DON'T LAUGH...THEIR HARDWARE DEPT, {WHERE THE SCREWS ARE}...ACTUALLY HAS 10-14 DRAWERS CONTAINING BLACK, AS WELL AS STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMOTIVE SCREWS & CONNECTORS, EVEN RUBBER WASHERS THAT CANNOT BE FOUND IN THE PARTS STORES

...A VERY HELPFUL WORKER HELPED ME LOOK THRU VARIOUS "GM PUSH IN“ FASTENERS...A LITTLE BIT OF TRAIL & ERROR AND THE RIGHT FASTENERS WERE FOUND...AND AT A MUCH CHEAPER COST THAN ON-LINE.

BELOW ARE THE SPECIFICS OF HOW I LOCATED THESE ITEMS..."STEP BY STEP"...I HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL TO SOME OF YOU.

…01-14-2013…ORDERED HOOD TO COWLING SEAL FROM SOFTSEAL.COM
…MEASUREMENTS FROM MY TWO {2} 1973 GTO’S…LENGTH: 65 INCHES
…HOOD TO COWLING: 65 INCHES….12 HOLES...ORDERED FROM SOFT SEAL.COM…1-800-426-0902

TO VIEW UNIVERSAL SEALS ON SITE…DO NOT SELECT CAR MANUFACTURER OR MAKE & MODEL
SELECT FROM LEFT HAND COLUMN…GO PAST CAR TYPES…
…JUST BELOW CAR TYPES…MOVE "MOUSE" TO “UNIVERSAL PARTS”…

THEN 4 SELECTIONS APPEAR…MOVE “MOUSE” TO “EXTRUSION”…THEN "DOUBLE CLICK" WILL SHOW APPROX 180 TYPES OF SEALS

…VIEW PHOTOS & SIDE VIEWS OF VARIOUS RUBBER SEALS.
…ON PAGE 4…PART THAT MOST MATCHES PROFILE FOR 1973 GTO/LEMANS
***PART # SR E 10710 …10 FEET @ $ 37.91
…$ 3.00 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL FOOT + SHIPPING

01-14-2013…I ORDERED 11 FEET…ENOUGH FOR TWO {2} CARS.
***10 FEET IS 37.91…EXTRA FOOT IS ENOUGH FOR TWO CARS

…SOFTSEAL, INC…104 MAY DRIVE, HARRISON, OH 45030
PHONE# 1-800 426-0902
SOFT SEAL.COM
NOTE: CLIPS BOUGHT ON E-BAY WOULD NOT FIT.
COSTS # 12.00 + SHIPPING…BETTER SOLUTION BELOW

01-24-2013…BOUGHT GM COWLING CLIPS AT “LOWES” …12 FOR $ 4.80...
"HITMAN" ...GM PUSH FASTENERS H# 881201 LOT # HO 1866145
This happened 2 months ago. Tried coil, blast resistor , no avail. Car sat for 2weeks Suddenly it started. Happened again.
Bought ignition key and key switch, same
Checked grounds and wiring. Checked coil with ohmmeter, same as other one I have
Any advise is greatly appreciated. What voltage should be at coil, assumed 12 volts in on position.

I picked up a TIP from watching a Classic Car Show on TV... A simple way to update & repair the PLASTIC CHROME TRIM that is usually worn away from chrome trim, was noted. A very simple coating was applied to the worn away chrome/silver trim by using a "SILVER LEAFING PEN" that can be purchased FROM ANY CRAFT'S STORE. These Coating pens are very similar to a MAGIC MARKER...it is a long slender pen, with a felt tip...they come in either GOLD or SILVER plating liguid. You simply take the cap off...push up & down on the felt tip and it loads the LEAFING liguid to the felt tip...then slide the felt tip along the worn trim....it is extremely easy to use and makes the plastic chrome {or gold} trim look like new. You may want to practice on some plastic edging....but it is very easy to use with just a little patience, you will get great results. The Plating pens cost approx $ 9.00. {AND THE STORE GAVE ME A COUPON FOR 40% OFF...MICHAEL'S CRAFT STORE} and you can easily do an entire dash board trim in no time. Leaves no brush marks...looks original. The Plating Pens are manufactured by KRYON...called "SILVER LEAFING PEN"...Short of buying new parts, which is seldom an option for classic cars, this is about as good as it gets. I have two 1973 GTO's, I did all my A/C vents, Glove box and center Console and they all look fantastic. Give it a try!

Before trying the module, make sure you install the heat shield for your starter if you haven't done that yet.
I had this problem before and found it to be a bad module in the HEI. It's a small electronic module inside the distributor cap that is easy to replace & doesn't cost that much. After replacing it, the engine fired right up & ran great. These will fail over time. Another symptom of this problem is that the car not only acts Iike it's not getting gas, but it sometimes backfires due to the affects with firing order from defective module. I hope this helps. Good luck.

1970 GTO colors produced

I found the 1970 GTO color production chart in the Collector's Originality Guide for the GTO. It shows all colors available with the number of GTO's produced in each color. It also totals all 1970 GTO's produced in these colors for a total number of 40,149.

Here's what I'm trying to find out: I bought my 1970 GTO 455 convertible way back in 1981 and learned that it was originally purchased as a special order by a dealer in Florida. I found the original build sheet under the front seat & it was heavily optioned, which included special order paint color to be Goldenrod Yellow. This color was only available in 1969, when this car was ordered and built and there are no other 70 GTO's on record this color. So, either the number of 1970 GTO's built is incorrect in the guide list, or one of the paint colors produced is wrong. The I.D. Plate under the hood of my GTO shows thr trim code (TR) to be left blank (no color selected, as it was a special order).

I know PHS does not have this level of detail available, so I'm wondering where this data came from. From the data available so far, this could be the only 70 GTO produced in this color. As you can imagine, I'm very interested in finding out if this is true. If anyone has any information on this, or suggestions on how to find out more, please let me know.

Thanks,

1973 GTO, 455 ENGINE…AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION...ALWAYS STARTED…INITIAL ISSUE: FAILS TO START AFTER A DRIVE…TRIED HEAT SHIELD…NOW GTO TRIES TO START "ONCE"…THEN NOTHING. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF WHAT TO TRY NEXT.

DURING FIRST TEST DRIVES, I HAVE NOTICED THE GTO STARTS EASILY…YET AFTER IF HEATS UP, SAY A 2-3 MILE DRIVE…THEN WHEN I SHUT OFF ENGINE, WAIT 20-30 SECONDS…CAR IS HARD, IF NOT UNABLE TO START…ACTS AS IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD…AFTER A FEW MINUTES, IT WILL START EASILY…DOES THIS EVERY TIME...NOW THE ISSUE IS WORSE, WILL NOT START

04-25-12…REPLACED THE CAR BATTERY WITH A MORE POWERFUL & CORRECT ONE...TEST DRIVE…SAME PROBLEM
…REPLACED THE CAR STARTER WITH A NEW ONE…TEST DRIVE, SAME ISSUE
***SUGGESTIONS MADE: Change your leads on your terminals or install a heat shield 04-
***SUGGESTIONS FROM GTO SITE: "The only GTO's I've had hot start problems with have been the automatic cars. I think the heat shield is a good idea".
04-28-2012…I MADE “HEAT SHIELD” WITH ALUMINUM…INSTALLED STARTERW/SHIELD…WIRE BROKE…REPAIRED…INSTALLED STARTER W/SHIELD….CRANKED ONCE, THEN QUIT….IF YOU TURN KEY, NOTHING…NO SOUND, NO CLICKING NADA
05-03-2012…TOOK HEAT SHIELD OFF STARTER…IT THEN CRANKED & SOUNDED GOOD FOR 2-3 SEC ...I STOPPED, STEPPED ON GAS TO SET CHOKE…IT WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING…NO CLICKING…JUST IDIOT LIGHT FOR RED GEN LIGHT…TEMP & OIL GAUGE NEEDLES MOVED.

I recently bought a 1973 GTO and have heard the stories of how hard it is to find replacements parts for the FRONT BUMPER PLASTC PANELS.

So I was surprised during one of my numerous Internet searches for parts...to discover an ALABAMA SUPPLIER who is making those identical parts.

I then called their 800 number and went over the measurements for the 3 sections of these 73 GTO bumpers parts, which, by the way, are now made of FIBERGLASS and have a LIFETIME WARRANTY to never wear out.

I think this Alabama Company is the only such business anywhere, that makes these specific parts.

The company is "REPLICA PLASTICS".
..1-800-873-5871
...Website: [www.replica-plastics.com]

Their Websit shows not only the 73 Lemans...But many other Classic cars....divided into the various Manufacturers.

The 73 GTO Panels & Prices are listed as follows:

1973 Lemans
POL 73 FLF Front Left Filler $49.00
POL 73 FRF Front Right Filler	$49.00
POL 73 FCF Front Center Filler	$97.00
