1966 GTO / Bonneville / Catalina engines the same as a 1968 Firebird (350) seeing as there was no such thing as a big block?

I FOUND THIS TRUE OF THE "HOOD TO COWLING SEAL". THEY MAKE THEM FOR ALL THE PRIOR YEARS, BUT THESE ARE FROM 54" TO 59 INCHES LONG...MUCH TOO SHORT IN LENGTH FOR THE 73 GTO/LEMANS.

THE HOOD TO COWLING ON A 73 GTO/LEMANS IS "65 INCHES LONG". AFTER A LOT OF RESEARCH, I ACTUALLY FOUND AN ALMOST IDENTICAL MATCH

PLEASE READ THE BELOW COMMENTS ON WHERE TO LOCATE THIS PARTICULAR SEAL...AND ALSO HOW I FOUND COWLING CLIPS THAT ACTUALLY FIT THE COWLING HOLES FOR THE 1973 PONTIAC GTO.

AFTER CHECKING MANY ON-LINE SITES & SPEAKING WITH DIFFERENT PERSONS ON THESE SITES...ONE HELPFUL PERSON SUGGESTED I CONTACT "SOFTSEAL.COM" AND SUPPLIED THIER PH# 1-800-426-0902.

AS ALWAYS, THEY ASK FOR THE MAKE & MODEL...& THEN REPLIED THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A "COWLING SEAL" FOR A 1973 GTO....NO SURPRISE...I'M USED TO THAT RESPONSE...BUT, THEN, AND THIS IS A FIRST...THE OPERATOR SUGGESTED I CHECK THEIR "UNIVERSAL PRODUCTS"...THAT SMALL COMMENT LED ME TO WHAT I NEEDED.

THE SUBSEQUENT PRODUCT PHOTOS I REVIEWED, LED ME TO AN ALMOST IDENTICAL SIDE VIEW AND EXACT DIMENTIONS THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR

...ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS NOTED THAT "SOFTSEAL" SELLS THIS COWLING SEAL IN 10 FOOT LENGTHS...WELL OVER THE 65 INCHES REQUIRED...BEFORE, ALL I COULD FIND WERE SEALS THAT WERE TOO SHORT...NOW I'M BEING OFFERED A SEAL WAY TOO LONG...SO I ASKED IF I COULD HAVE THE LENGTH INCREASED TO 11 FEET...GIVING ME ENOUGH COWLING SEAL TO ACTUALLY DO TWO CARS.

{PERSONALLY, I THINK THEY WILL OFFER IT IN A SHORTER LENGTH, BY THE FOOT, IF YOU ASK...SO I COULD HAVE ASKED FOR 6 FOOT, AT A LOWER PRICE} DOESN'T HURT TO ASK. ANYWAYS, I ORDERED 11 FEET, SINCE I HAVE TWO 73 GTO'S.

I THEN WENT ON-LINE TO EBAY AND ORDERED "COWLING CLIPS...COST $ 12.00...ONLY TO ARRIVE & BE WAY TOO THICK TO FIT MY 73 GTO COWLING HOLES. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN HAMMER INTO THE HOLE....{THAT WAS $ 12.00 WASTED}

I THEN WENT TO "LOWES" HOME IMPROVEMENT...DON'T LAUGH...THEIR HARDWARE DEPT, {WHERE THE SCREWS ARE}...ACTUALLY HAS 10-14 DRAWERS CONTAINING BLACK, AS WELL AS STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMOTIVE SCREWS & CONNECTORS, EVEN RUBBER WASHERS THAT CANNOT BE FOUND IN THE PARTS STORES

...A VERY HELPFUL WORKER HELPED ME LOOK THRU VARIOUS "GM PUSH IN“ FASTENERS...A LITTLE BIT OF TRAIL & ERROR AND THE RIGHT FASTENERS WERE FOUND...AND AT A MUCH CHEAPER COST THAN ON-LINE.

1973 GTO, 455 ENGINE…AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION...ALWAYS STARTED…INITIAL ISSUE: FAILS TO START AFTER A DRIVE…TRIED HEAT SHIELD…NOW GTO TRIES TO START "ONCE"…THEN NOTHING. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF WHAT TO TRY NEXT.

DURING FIRST TEST DRIVES, I HAVE NOTICED THE GTO STARTS EASILY…YET AFTER IF HEATS UP, SAY A 2-3 MILE DRIVE…THEN WHEN I SHUT OFF ENGINE, WAIT 20-30 SECONDS…CAR IS HARD, IF NOT UNABLE TO START…ACTS AS IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD…AFTER A FEW MINUTES, IT WILL START EASILY…DOES THIS EVERY TIME...NOW THE ISSUE IS WORSE, WILL NOT START

04-25-12…REPLACED THE CAR BATTERY WITH A MORE POWERFUL & CORRECT ONE...TEST DRIVE…SAME PROBLEM

So I was surprised during one of my numerous Internet searches for parts...to discover an ALABAMA SUPPLIER who is making those identical parts.

I then called their 800 number and went over the measurements for the 3 sections of these 73 GTO bumpers parts, which, by the way, are now made of FIBERGLASS and have a LIFETIME WARRANTY to never wear out.

I think this Alabama Company is the only such business anywhere, that makes these specific parts.

Working a bit on a 1:25 scale '64 Tempest/'71 SCCA Trans Am Series Bob Tullius Grey Ghost and searching for research material. I'm active on other boards, namely the Boss 302 Registry as well as the Camaro Research Group, and am happy to have much already. In particular, I vaguely remember a Petersen's Publishing photo spread in '71 or '72 depicting the car torn down on a suburban driveway that might yield a few views deemed uncommon. Car Craft magazine has a website-based quick retrospective of the old SCCA Trans Am that features one image, whereas the Motor Trend Classic publication (does it still exist I wonder?) had a photo spread titled 'The Trans Am You've Never Seen' that has the same image I do believe. While definitive information about the car obviously isn't in the cards, I nevertheless want to do honor to what will always be remembered as an eclectic and neat effort by dedicated Pontiac heads.

I focus upon old SCCA Trans Am topics in scale, whereas what I do can be sampled via the fotki account 'bmwmalaga'. In 2006 someone did a resin transkit of the Grey Ghost based upon the 1:25th AMT '64 GTO annual kit release with a flared bodyshell and decals amongst other things. Apparently about 25 of them were produced, whereas I am very pleased to have one. Any guidance would be very much appreciated, whereas any help I can afford with regards to revealing what combination of parts I employed seem to have worked best, techniques, advice if you will I always try to freely share.
