Car Bra

OK, Let me have it. Everyone give me their pros and cons on using car bras. I am purchasing a new car with a full bra for the front end. What is the best way to use it without messing up my paint job? Let me know. Thanks

Prior to installing the bra make sure there is good coating of wax on the parts that will be covered. Remove the bra to wash the car, and wash it seperately. Remove the bra after driving in the rain, so it, and the parts of the car can dry out.

When installed, make sure everything is tight, and the bra flaps as little as possible, since flapping can quickly wear through the paint.

I'm not a big fan of bras, but if you must have one, you have to take extra care to protect the part of the car the bra is 'supposed' to be protecting.

ok, you left the door wide open on one, I can't resist.
Bra's should be banned for cars AND women!

SOME women! Knee busters (no pun intended) need to be restrained.

You might want to try a perfect fit bra. They fit much better than the 2 previous ones I have had for my last 3 cars. This thing has yet to flap, even at some serious speeds.

I put a bra on my new black Pathfinder. First it took me hours to get in on (it was a cold day and very hard to stretch it all the way), and I ended up ripping one of the hooks. It also scratched the clearcoat on the bumper, esp were some plastic parts slip under the grill. Having to take it off and clean it etc was also a hassel, so I've kept it off, except for the top part that attaches just to the hood. This is easy to put on and off and at least keeps the front of the hood protected. I'm planning to use the whole thing just when I go on long trips.

Bras have been knowed to do what you have mentioned above with the ripping of the hooks. They come very handy if you are going on a long trip. As for everyday use, I strongly am against them due to their scratching ability if any debris get lodged between the vehicles finish & also the flannel backing of the bra itself.

The hood only covered area is a perfect source for maintaining your finish. Always keep the flannel backing clean & always keep your finish polished & wax on a regualr basis.

Also to note: Flew over to visit my brother in Effingham, IL. the other week & we were trying to stretch his new bra over his brand new Pontiac Trans Am. It was only around ten degrees that we pulled so hard that I ripped the bra in half & landed into St. Louis with the hooks still in my hand. We had to use the Jaws of Life to get the hooks out of my hands.

Toddco, I enjoyed your story! Misery loves company. I felt like an idiot when I tried putting my car bra on. I was out in the driveway wrestling for hours. The neighbers went shopping and out to dinner and I was still there. The sun went down so I had to pulled the SUV in the garage for light. After it was over, my thumbs were so sore and tight I could barely hold my beer! I'm sure I put some scratches in the clearcoat too. My advice to anyone getting one, either pay the dealer to put it on, or wait until the heat of summer!

Toddco, I enjoyed your story also. Just curious, does your brother have the yellow Daytona Pace Car and where did he finally land?

Yes,

He was able to purchase one of the fourteen replica Daytona Pace Cars that were there on the track. They were on hand in Daytona honoring former Daytona winners from the past Daytona events.

He also landed in Terre Haute, Indiana! Thanks for asking. Daytona was worth the extended flight trip. I got stipped search boarding into Los Angeles International Airport. I forgot about my Doc Martins steel toed leather shoes that were made in England prior to boarding the plane. I was detained for four hours & missed my flight. My shoes were sent ahead of me & I just received them in the mail yesterday. It's a very long story that I care not to discuss.

I'm glad that I'm home safe & back to business as usual.
