Fabric car tops.

Hi all, I have a neighbor who was given a cadillac that has a fabric top (ragtop). It is the stationary kind, not the convertible kind. It has a green algae growing on it and he says that he had it cleaned once and that it came back. Any ideas on how to make it go away permantly?

I assume the car does not get used to often. Everytime I have seen this happen the car typically sits and never gets used. What color is the top? I have found some success with a mild bleach solution if the cover is white and scrubbing doesn't remove it. Make sure the car gets parked in the sun after you are done not in the shade. Algae needs moisture to grow

The top is black. I thought about bleach but not on a black top. You are right about it not getting used alot. The car was given to him by an elderly couple and was garage kept. However, my neighbor does not have a garage and puts a car cover on it. He is trying to get a storage unit for this winter. So black is the color...now what?

That car cover you mentioned may be trapping water. Make sure it is breathable like the Weathershield covers from www.autoanything.com.
HMMM. I wonder if Roundup or some other garden vegetation killer would kill the growth without damaging the top itself ????
I say park it in the sun for a week at least.
