bubble in paint / new car

Hi. I am buying a new acura MDX - pearl white. I inspected the car carefully and i noticed a few bubbles in the paint. One on the hood and on the side of the car near the handle. They are the size of pin heads. I don't mean to sound picky, but this is an expensive vehicle. My main question is are these bubbles to be expected on any new car, or are they defects that could turn into bigger problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The only thing I've come across in factory paint that comes close is in new Fords, Focus in particular (By the way I'm in Australia) where the factory tries to repair blemishes and imperfections and leaves sandpaper like scratches and what you describe as the small bubbles.

If you're worried about further damage take the car back and have it repaired under warranty. If you've spotted this damage before you've taken delivery of the car, the dealer will have to fix it... and you're right, its not a cheap car!

It could be that the car has been repainted. If you had a paint thickness guage ($49.00) you could measure the thickness of the film on the surface and determine if it had, in fact, been repainted. The total film thickness should be no more than 6 mils. Anything more is repaint.

Check closely around door handles, window trim, etc to see if there is any masking tape overspray marks.

Better yet take the car to a top bodyshop in the area and ask them to determine if the car has been repainte.

Usually the paint finishes on luxury cars do not have factory imperfections in the paint.

Let us know what happens.

It is so simple....Why not get another pearl white vehicle and save oneself the aggravation of having to purchase a paint gauge or visit a body shop?

Gina is absolutely correct, if you are buying a new car, then do not accept this car as it is.

Ron Ketcham of Auto International pointed out to me that since this was a new car it is likely the problem you are seeing was caused by an in-factory, after the assembly line repair or it was a dealer repair of damage that occurred in transit.

In either case, take Gina's simple advise, choose another car.
