HOW DO YOU REMOVE STAINS
August 09, 2010 12:19AM
Stain removing in carpets and fabric upholstery is a difficult and daunting task for detailers. For many years when detailing was wholesale only, if the detailer could not get the stain out with normal shampooing methods that was what the dealer got.

Today, with the consumer coming to use to "repair the cosmetic damage" inflicted on the interior of the vehicle by kids, spilled coffee; coke; orange soda, etc a detailer has to be prepared to offer more to the customer.

Even for myself having all the technologies available to effectively remove stains, I find it hard to eliminate all stains, especially those that have "set" and are older than Methusala.

How many of your detailers have an effective method (s) for removing stains and what are they.

Thanks

Bud Abraham

a/c delco makes a very good stain remover, its a little pricey but it will get most any stain, even red ones if they are not too old. I use it regularly, but sparingly as it is expensive. I have tried several other methods but none seem to work as well. In the worst cases We dye the stain.

BobM

Have found that no one stain remover will take out every stain. You have inorganic stains and organic stains and they are different.

Bud, true true. The delco stain remover I was referring to is actually two part numbers. One for red stains and therefore has a red lable and another for yellow stains wich of course has a yellow lable. I should have clarified that.

What about tar& grease; coffe/tea; rust? From what I have read about stains they are all different.

Understand the red dye remover, what is the yellow product?

What do you use as well as the stain removers?

Believe it or not, the red lable remover gets out alot more than you would think. the yellow is for mustard type stains, food and such. I have both products on my cart, I will get you the part numbers tomorrow and you can try em.

I do not share trade secrets...as we have spent many years and dollars on experimenting, attending seminars, training etc.. Stain removal is offered as a stand alone service which makes us a lot of money.

Am I that good? ... well you would have to speak to the customers we have served...they seem to think we are very good..

The secret to stain removal is to identify the stain, know your limitations, understand the efficacy of the product you will use and its dwell time, and more importantly understand the properties of the material stained and the effect of stain removers on them.

We have over 20 different stain removers on hand and remove anything from ink, red dye, coffee stains, exploding coke cans in headliners, crayons , spilled paint in carpets and seats, pollen from flowers in headliners, melted citronella candles in seats, magic markers, red wine stains, vandalism on soft tops and exterior paint, nail polish and many more..

Shoot, I forgot to write down the part number on the bottle of the stain remover sold by general motors. I promis I will write it down tomorrow and let you know what it is so you can get your hands on some and give it a test of your own. I have used it on, ink (did not work) red dye (did work) coffee stains (did) exploding coke cans (did) crayons (did) spilled paint (did not remove dried paint) magic markers (did not) nail polish(did) gum (did) and grease and oil (did) Its no secret. general motors dealers have been selling this stuff for years. Mopar also markets one with part number mo4883066 that sells for $12.95 a quart, although I have not yet tried this product.

That is most impressive to know if can take out all these various stains. I am anxious to try it out and let my chemist take a look at it.

Thank you for sharing. I guess Gina will add your product to her "trade secret" process.

Well here is the part number of the stain remover I use most often. 88861404. Let me know if you like it as well as I do. Even if you are the best at what you do it never hurts to have another product on your cart that works well.
