Back Off!!! those plastic trim pieces while...

Posted by Toddco Bodywerkes
A common practice to preform is to stay your distance while polishing or waxing near plastic trim pieces. By doing this, you will prevent any staining on these items & also make less work for removing any debris that may get lodged into the cracks.

One good method is to apply some light masking tape only on the edge of the plastic that meets the body panel. All of your problems are solved & there is no mess to clean up.

I purchased a used van and found out later that the trim was already stained. Using Armor All only covers it up for a short time.

How do I get rid of it?

A MILD method is to use WD-40 on a stiff toothbrush. The oils and solvents in the WD-40 help disolve the dried wax residue in textured trim, and the toothbrush is mall and stiff enough to let give you plentyv of control, and reach into the hard to get areas (just like they do with your teeth).

Oddly enough, the WD-40 has little effect on 'cured' wax surfaces, but works good on 'dried wax clumps.'

Too, you could use the toothbrush and a stronger cleaner such as Castrol Super Clean, but that WILL eat the wax off the car, so rewaxing is nessessary.
