I just bought a used car 1992 Lexus SC400. The car finish seems to be well taken care of.My question is what is the best wax polish etc. for me to start off with? I want to try to get the paint to look a good as possible, what steps and products would you recomend? The car is garnet red in color, also any leather care tips would be appreciated. Thanks Ken

Ken,

Your Lexus has a metallic clear coat finish on it. The metallic finishes tend to require more care with the metallic in the paint. You do gain a valuable shine when the finish is brought out in the light. As for which products you can select from. That would be a matter of opinion or opinions that may be read upon this board.

I personally would use the P21S paint cleaner & carnuba wax for your Lexus. You might also hear others telling you about some other products to choose from. This is a matter of opinion. Personally I only use this type of paint cleaner & wax for the Lexus that I serve upon.

You can purchase this product from the website as follows: www.properautocare.com

As for your leather care & conditioning, we only use the Lexol system which consist of the leather cleaner followed by using their leather conditioner. Each one goes hand in hand together. If you use one, you must use the other to achieve the proper results. Good Luck with your new purchase, you have picked a fine automobile that shows a lot of class. Happy Motoring!

Richard,

You are starting off in the right direction with getting your feet wet, no pun intended.

You simply need to purchase some low cost tools to start off with & work your way up to some higer end products that will make your work easier in time as you get really experience working with the polishers & orbital machines.

You might want to purchase a good wet/dry vacuum too along with your normal detailing product & supplies. As to what products to choose from, you will want to use what works for you.

You didn't state if you were going to be mobie or located in one place. Hope this helps you a little to start off with. Good Luck with your new venture.
