Doug, Nothing could be further from the truth. I loved your nail polish on the boom box experiment and I’m passing that little jewel onto my other pro buddies, via private email. I’m even considering nominating you for detailer of the year award, aren’t you excited. WOW....... why couldn’t I of thought of that.by Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Doug who’s the person that gave you this advise??? Zeno ; The detailing business is about Demographics, marketing ,advertising and finance like any other business. The book E-Myth is a good book but it’s a very small part of the whole.by Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Competition in the detailing industry has little to do with what YOU should be charging. Every vehicle is different, so labor is based on time vs hourly rate. Establish a hourly rate based on costs and profit then price your time accordantly. Most detailers from the statements made on professional detailing forums haven’t a idea how to make profit in a detailing business. Many don’t understandby Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Concoursgarage, If you don’t agree with Dougs enthusiast driven theory of pricing then please disagree publicly, or maybe you would be in YOUR best interest to write a article about it. What is my issue with Doug???? Re-Read my original post on mobileworks concerning enthusiast driven forums!!! I also would like to take note on your phrase, “ INTELLIGENT people know this”. Appears you are grasping at straws once again!!! No, No, No, and NO You have to accurately understand detailing and labor hours per job. One again, it is impossible to live in a virtual world and understand this business. May I ask who gave you this labor time theory???by Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
No Doug, a full detail done right takes as long as it takes . It depends on type of vehicle, process, speed and customer expectations. The problem with you giving professional advise is your not a Pro !!!The virtual world of detailing will not teach you thisby Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
LOL....“My limited market research indicates that many people don't know what the word " detailing " Ah, I can see you have been “lurking” reading my post on Mobileworks again! The issue was brought up to distinguish Pro’s, who own detailing businesses, from Virtual part timers like yourself. I’m glad you recognize the industry needs to differentiate between the two.by Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

What’s the problem with a group of detailers getting together in private and sharing information benefitting them, not you? Why is that so hard to comprehend? Your right about “personally thinking half the pros have there head up there wazoo”. Most of them are on enthusiast forums portraying themselfs as such. Thanks for clearing all that up GM.by Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
The enthusiast forums are run by people who sell wax, also I have no reason to help kids be better detailers. The enthusiast forums have become counterproductive for our professional detailing industry. Why don’t I give exact references to my opinions? My views aren’t open for your none educated enthusiastic debate. Walk on the coals for awhile, then we will talk!!! The only reason I commented oby Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I’m sure you enjoy that forum and so do I, but for some serious laughs. Oh Doug, I do wheel wells, only when the clients pay to do wheel wells. Detailing wheel wells is based on cost. In the “real world” you need to be compensated properly for cleaning and dressing wheel wells. In the “enthusiasts world” all you have is time and no costs against the job. If you actually understand the real world of professional business profitability, then you will chuckle also. Nby Simone - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Doug, Most of us share information privately you won’t see on any forum. I have read enough of your inaccurate enthusiast driven information. Doug, how many vehicles have you personally detailed 1000's, or is it just a few dozen. You remind me of one of those guy’s who has never thrown a football in his life, but knows everything about Pro ball by watching TV. Autopia??? I understand your woes, however most of your comments are based on internet forum enthusiasm. The business knowledge you have acquired about the detailing market has been primarily based on what you have read on enthusiast pro forums.
