Is it matching numbers? Auto or manual trans? What options does it have? The condition is most important thing. Restoration is very expensive these days. Parts and labor usually end up being twice what you think it will be.

I almost bought a Royal Bobcat car once so I did a lot of research. The only way to authenticate one is to have the paperwork. Unfortunately, they didn't keep records on the Bobcat kits that were installed and there were different levels of Bobcats. Hundreds if not thousands of people joined the Royal Bobcat Club and you could even order some kits through the mail.

The dealership sold the Bobcat business in 1969 and Bobcat kits were available after that date from another location.

Royal Bobcats were made at Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac in Royal Oaks, Michigan until 1969 when they stopped producing them.

No 66's came with 400's or two barrels. You can order the build sheet from PHS to confirm this, but it would be a waste of $35.

I have a bunch of GTO books and I've read something on the placement. I will check for it as there's nothing worse than a hood tach in the wrong location.

If you're going to keep the car for a long time, go for it. But it will hurt the value some. A matching numbers 67 GTO is a desirable car. Hoods aren't too expensive. If you're going to paint the car, maybe you could paint two hoods, one with the tach and one without.

John - Cars that came out of the Freemont, CA plant, or "z" coded cars were somtimes stamped in the location your described. I'd like to hear about the car. I have two freemont engines and they are both stamped in the same location. Please send me an e-mail on it. nvigroup@cox.net
