1971 gto 400 ci - 15 years ago

I recently purchased a 69 gto. It has a 71 gto 400 ci engine. The problem is in 71 the 400 engines became lower compression (8.2:1) and lower hp (300 instead of 350). Basically, I am wondering how much this affects the performance of the car. Will this engine still have the low end torque and high speed horsepower that the older, higher compression engines have or should I start looking for a di
