Before trying the module, make sure you install the heat shield for your starter if you haven't done that yet. These old starters are known to act like that when they get too hot. I had this problem before and found it to be a bad module in the HEI. It's a small electronic module inside the distributor cap that is easy to replace & doesn't cost that much. After replacing it, the engine fired right up & ran great. These will fail over time.
