<HTML>Do any of you use a thickness gauge (electronic or magnetic) to help determine your safe zone for buffing or wet sanding on clear coat? If you do, please xplain how you use it. It seems that the gauge can only tell me how thick the "coatings" are, not how much is e-primer, color or clear. The reason I ask; I want to avoid buffing or wet sanding myself into a new paint job.

Thanks,

<HTML>You are correct, the paint thickness guage (magnetic or digital) will only measure the thickness of the entire film on the vehicle from the metal to the top of clear coat.

However, if you know the thickness of the entire film you can tell about how much clear is left on the car.

I have a page that gives you a description of what a paint might be like at different film thicknesses.

If you call Adriana and give her your name and email address I can have her email it to you as I am out of town all next week. Call 1-800/284-0123.
