<HTML>A "polish" "burnishes" the surface, removing small imperfections, cleans.

A "glaze" is like a woman puts on her face, a "glaze" is "make-up" that temporarily hides imperfections.

<HTML>That may be your definition, but it all depends who you ask. Some companies use the term "glaze" to mean a body shop safe polish (for example 3M's Machine Glaze). Some companies use the term "polish" to mean a sealant (for example Zaino Bro's polish). Some companies make "polishes" that are just cover-up products that you would call a glaze. Like I say, it all depends who you ask.</HTML>

<HTML>My definitions in "detailing for dummies" are:

polish -- cleans paint; removes mild oxidation & dead paint due to abrasives in the cream; shines paint to highest gloss possible.

glaze -- shines paint to a high gloss with less abrasives and fills imperfections temporarily.

wax -- cream or paste that coats finish for potection and minimal shine.

sealant -- synthetic blend that bonds (not just coats) to the finish giving optimal protection; adds minimal shine.

Ron, great analogy for the glaze!</HTML>

<HTML>The definitions of those products and others you might consider are the following:

Compound - a chemical used to correct finish problems such as oxidation; scratches, water spotting; scuffs, etc.

Swirl Remover - as the words indicate a product formulated to remove buffer/compound swirls. Some swirl removers are just that removers, that is, they have light, light abrasives in them to remove buffer swirls. Others are just fillers, that is, they fill the buffer swirls.

Polish - a product that is formulated much like a swirl remover to smooth the paint finish and create a high shine. With the right product you can both remove swirls and polish at the same time. Or, if you just need to polish you can use the same product.

Wax - is a product that uses wax and silicone fluids to provide a protective coat on the paint. Usually a wax, the best wax, will last no longer than 30 to 45 days.

Paint Sealant - they can contain wax, the better ones do, but the key difference is the use of amino functional silicones which, bottom line, give the sealant more durablity. Under the best conditions some sealants might last up to 6 months.

GLAZE - while this term is used by many companies to mean a lot of things: a polish; swirl remover or filler; a wax; a sealant, etc. THE REAL DEFINITION IS: a body shop safe swirl remover. That is, it has no silicones or wax in it. It is used in body shops after the compound to remove swirls and provide a minimal protection on new paint which cannot be waxed or sealed for 60 to 90 days.

Hope that helps.
