<HTML>Confusing question...not sure if you are asking about tools, methodology, or products...

The decision for the type of tools or products will l depend to a great extent on the following:
Type of automobile and its age (import/domestic)
cleaning for maintenance, cleaning for restoration, cleaning for preservation, cleaning for remediation
type of leather /vinyl/naugahyde/pleather/alcantara/suede
The age of the leather or vinyl etc
condition of the leather/vinyl etc
color of the leather/vinyl etc
finish on the leather or vinyl
age new, antique,
condition

Towels
boars hairs brushes
tooth brushes
air gun
multi purpose cleaner
specially formulated leather cleaners
leather stain removers
mold removers
mild scrubbing pads
leather conditioners
strippers
other (proprietary tools)</HTML>

Leather should be treated gently to avoid abrading it. I generally apply the soap or interior cleaner ( Griot's interior cleaner, Lexol soap ) with a cotton towel. You can apply most leather treatments with bare hands but I prefer a towel. Natural bristle brushes are recommended for dusting and pulling dirt out of seams. Some brushes made for shoes work fine.

Interior cleaner works well on vinyl but if the vinyl is filthy, you can brush on an all purpose cleaner with a scrub brush and toothbrush and then rinse.
For something in between, I reach for Windex orange Multi-task. Cotton towels are fine.
