Chrome polish?

Like paint, I've always wondered why with all the small surface scratches and marring on chrome, such as door handles, why can't it be polished out as paint can. It would seem to require different products and technique, obviously, but as yet I haven't seen anybody do it.

I once asked some pros about this question of polishing chrome. These were guys who did a lot of work with aluminum and stainless steel on trucks .

In their opinion, chrome cannot be polished to the extent that softer metals can .
They thought that deep scratches were there to stay .

I have had some luck polishing out small scratches from chrome bumpers . The procedure is as follows :
Apply Meguiar's All Metal Polish or Malm's fine polish with a PC 7424 and Meguiar's yellow polishing pad ( 6.5" ) . Wipe residue off and repeat the process as necessary . Apply wax ( I don't believe that stuff about the chrome having to breathe ) .
You could try other products, of course. I imagine that Flitz, Mother's Chrome Polish and many other polishes will work well .
