WHAT IS A HACKER?

Because so many posters on this forum, and others, use the term "HACKER" when referring to detailers who they believe to be unqualified to be a detailer Bob has questioned what qualifies a person to be a HACKER?

What do you have to say?

Well, in checking competitors within a twenty mile radius of my operation, I witnessed one company who washed a car with a kitchen floor mop - the woolen-string type. I mean that thing has an exposed metal base. One miss and the paint is FUBAR.

But in general terms, I consider hackers as untrained people who use dressings without cleaning the surface first. Who wipe carpet and upholstery surface instead of deep soil extracting. Who use old rags to wipe on wax, and buff it off. Who use the cheapest or strongest of acids to clean wheels. Who paint on tire dressing thickly, causing sling. Who pressure wash the inside of the car doors - the actual card - giving it back to the customer with the door-handle or pockets full to the brim with water! Who wash car exteriors by dipping the brush into the bucket ONCE and going over the entire vehicle.

I could go on. But I think I will let somebody else contribute their experiences.

There's alot of hackers in this industry, but this is why we have to take it to the next level and separate us from the competition. The bucket and sponge guy died years ago.

Thanks for your reply, but you did not identify or define what a "hacker" is?

Many detailers use buckets and sponges to wash cars, I am sure there is more to being a hacker than using a bucket and sponge.

Thanks for responding Bud A. Of course us detailers use bucket and sponges, but that is just a saying for the guy that is out there not knowing what he is doing. I'm in San Diego, CA and that is what we call "hackers"

So a guy who does not know what he is doing is your definition of a hacker?

Can you expand on that?

A person who is out there damaging vehicles not using the correct equipment, burning paint systems, under cutting prices. Alot of professional detailers invest in their education to learn and get professionally trained. They invest on there equipment to go out there and run a successful business and look like a professional. These hackers are giving these professional detailers a bad name. Like I mentioned before any one can pick up a bucket and sponge and call himself a detailer, but a person that invest the time and effort to get education can call himself the Auto Reconditioning Specialist.
