Bill,

I'm certainly not a scientist that can break down the answer in scientific means, but I'll do my best to explain what I have gathered through my experiences. As you stated the sealants and waxes form a barrier on top of your clear coat that help prevent environmental factors from degrading the finish. It will resist all of the items you listed but to what extent and for how long is really the question I would ask. Some bird droppings will not etch through the sealant and wax, while highly acidic dropping will go through the sealant or wax in just minutes. So yes I do think the word protection is completely accurate but again to what extent is tough to answer because there are essentially infinite variables. If you have any other questions please let me know.

I have heard that waxes and sealants offer protection for my paint. The definition of protection is:the state of being protected. Given this, could you explain exactly how wax and sealants protect my paint from the sun, salt,
bugs, bird crap, and tree sap.?

I realize that wax and sealants provide a barrier, but does this barrier truly prevent damage for a period of time? Is protection the right term to use for these products in your opinion?

This guy is a pro who answers questions on the web. This is my definition
of spin:

This logic make about as much sense as putting a screen door on a submarine to me.

Bill, sorry but I am getting a little worried about your quest and all the re-posting of threads from other forums. You are getting a little obsessive at this stage. You should not be posting emails that somebody probably sent you in confidence. Its very disrespectful. I'm going to remove my bookmark from this forum as there is absolutely nothing positive going on in it anymore due to your obsessiveness with your acrylic teflon product line.

It would be far more impressive if you took on a challenge like healthy living, environmental issues, animal welfare, caring for the elderly, child cruelty prevention, and so on. Banging on and on and on about swirl marks in paint and protective products implies that your life needs a little more balance in it. Take a break and do some work for your community or something that has a greater priority in this short life that we have.

I say all this with respect, but I don't think I will be back to read any more replies. Like a lot of other detailers, I fear.

Profile, I am with you.
This thing of his has gone beyond the "detailing issues", and such.

I hope you will return and perhaps all of us together can steer the forum in a new direction.

I believe you are right.I think truly I am wasting my time here. I am sorry I hurt your feelings, but I was trying to make a point that no one is talking about.
I thought this was a detailing forum, not a social forum for world events.

Clearly, you have not seen what I am saying here. I am trying to provide a solution to a very common problem, but who cares? If you have no interest
in this subject, well I ask why did you get into this business? Just to make money?

Bill , just send some AT-5 to some of the big guns on this form , and let them test it.2 oz should do it . You can talk until your hair turns green , but if they dont try it you will never get your point across.

It is truly hopeless. It is like talking to a wall. I offered a long time ago
to send you a sample, and you declined. I have spent a lot of my time that I could be doing more enjoyable things than taking this abuse.

It is hard going against the grain, and for some stupid reason I thought my efforts may help detailers show their customers a way to protect their finish without special wash procedures, and swirl marks.

Well, the big guns on this forum have never been interested, and really hostile
to everything I have said. Clearly, subjects like: Why you became a detailer, and challenges you face in your business are more important.

Personally, this forum is the only forum where I can mention these things without being banned, and that is why I have stayed here.Although, I think it is time to move on. Clearly, the info provided here is useless IMO.

it isnt useless bill. You have made your points and I agree with some of them but why cant we just talk about other detailing stuff

like techniques, new products, tools etc
Stuff like surbuf and meguiars MF discs, new ways of treating exterior window/door trims instead of using dressings, tyres, wheels etc

Go right ahead.I am trying to talk about new methods and products. Go to any forum, and all they talk about is which wax to use, or more correction before and after pics.

I am trying to show people a way to protect their paint. Is anyone on any forum
talking about this? Once a paint finish is shot, it is time to repaint.

You mention what you do,and to be honest I see what you procedures offer. Although, surbuf and mequiars MF discs basically do one thing which is wear done the clear, and applying a wax or sealant after really defeats the purpose.

Maybe I am different from a lot of detailers because I do not depend on business
from car dealerships for my living. If anyone is destroying the image of what
a car detailer is,well, it is them for sure.

I am sorry, but a clear coat is what it is, and real protection is what it is.
You saw the videos I posted of the two examples of vehicles that were protected
with AT-5.I could show more, but why bother.
