69 gto wiring nightmare

We just purchased our 69 gto a month ago and am going through some major wiring nightmares! We finally put in a new front wiring harness which helped us get all of the headlights, side marker lights, etc. working. Before replacing that, the dash lights worked fine. After replacing it and installing an aftermarket radio, the dash and console lights quit working. Everytime we replace the fuse and hook the battery back up, the fuse blows.

We've checked all of the other wires, either fixing or replacing the ones that were questionable, but they still won't work. The bulbs are fine too (except the rally clock bulb). Do you think we have a ground problem someplace?

There's a gray wire (typically a ground) going to the console light. We thought all of the gray wires were grounds, not carrying current.

The outside lights all come on when you pull the switch out. The horn isn't working and neither is the key alarm (thank goodness for that one).

Any suggestions? Could it be the light switch?

IF YOU HAVE A VOLT/OHM METER.
DISCONNECT THE NEG BATTERY TERMINAL.
SET METER FOR OHMs AND CHECK FROM POS BATTERY TERMINAL TO A GOOD ENGINE GROUND. READING SHOULD BE NOTHING, AN OPEN.
IF NOT, PULL ONE FUSE AT A TIME, UNTIL YOU GET NOTHING. THAT WILL TELL YOU WHICH CIRCUIT CONTAINS THE PROBLEM.
GOOD LUCK.
