Best way to find out is to get the Pontiac Historical Service or PHS documentation on it. Use your search engine to look it up and once you get to the site explore it a bit and you will find that there is a form you can download and print and mail to them with your Vin # they will be able to get back to you quickly. The site also has a fax # and I believe a phone # for imediate service incase you are trying to buy a car quickly. Hope this helps. Lance

That VIN is for an 8 cylinder LeMans hardtop (no post) built at the Pontiac, MI, plant. It *could* be a GTO. It seems as though most Pontiac and Kansas City built GTOs have a "5N" on the data tag, but there are documented exceptions to this. Only way to know for sure is to find your build sheet in the car or send away for PHS docs - www.phs-online.com

64 year ,,,2 tempest lemans 2 pontiac,37 2dr hard top PO, pontiac Mi plant 9073 body style number 214 blk interior
1W= soft ray tinted window frt only
2P luggage right (FRA & PON plant only)
2R rear seat speaker
5W 2 spd auto
8= V8 motor,2= series=lemans,4 year 1964 ,P=pontiac plant,,175020= production code

for it to be a true gto there should be one more option code 5N for gto option but if you find the built sheet the option 382 is a true gto production code for your built sheet.
Travis the pontiac guy hey Ron were are your built date codes should be a three or four letter code above style on data plate
