Here is a possible solution to the problem of unfairly negative reviews . At the bottom of the customer's receipt or on a separate paper, print the following : " Below are Internet links to sites where you can post a review of our services. Profile- The classic sales process consists of 5 " doors" or "steps" : 1. Get acquainted and build trust. 2. Ask questions to probe for needs. 3. Explore options 4. Overcome objections 5. Close the sale. You are not supposed to open a " door "(or go on to the next " step " ) until you " close the door " before it. That meanby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Interesting topic, Gina. I pay a lot of attention to reviews but keep my eyes open for bogus stuff. If something gets 5 stars from ten people and one star from one person, I read carefully to see if that one disgruntled customer is just a crackpot. It is harder to spot those with a hidden agenda, such as competitors, who may be less than objective in their appraisals. Example : Zainoby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Profile- Glad you found that post useful. I'm not sure I can endorse a particular sales book but others have praised Jerry Bresser, Joe Girard, Og Mandino and others. One sales trainer gave me this gem : " Nervous salesmen have skinny kids ". It means that people won't buy from nervous salesmen, so they cannot even afford to feed their children. Here is a summary I posted way back when... The E Myth Summarized Entrepreneurs are innovators and experimenters. Technicians are workers . Managers try to keep things from changing and tend to resist new ideas because most new ideas don’t work . Entrepreneurs must try to be all three, keeping the three personalities in balance . The greatest business people understand the astonby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Before I speak, I want to admit that I can only speculate about solutions to this problem, so take my ideas with a big "FWIW". This sounds to me like a salesmanship issue. Maybe you folks should interact with the customer the way a good pressure car salesman would : 1) Avoid being too nice because nice people get pushed around. 2) Politely tell phone callers that you are verby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Profile : I don't know of any detailer who has found an answer to winter weather. My only ideas involve offering some sort of winter services that might induce people to venture out into the cold to see you. Some of these are more maintenance than detailing, admittedly. Bobm- I'm starting the hoax that the Germans used Zaino on the Tiger Tanks, which accounts for the shells bouncing off of them. LOL I've been watching the " Greatest Tank Battles " series on the Military Channel and imagine that clips from it are on YouTube. It is a fine series that employs computer images. BTW- Some Russian T-34 tanks were rushed from theby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bob- I was unaware that many German tanks were gasoline powered. I had read that German tanks were diesel ( and some of them were ), making them less likely to catch fire when hit. Not all tanks burn up due to breached armor. Something has to ignite the fuel supply or something. I'm not sure but you may be confusing the "Panzer" tanks with the "Panther"by Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bob- I'm not missing the chance to start a flame war over gasoline ! LOL If you served in the Sherman tanks in WWII, you no doubt remember that they were nicknamed " Ronsons " by both the allied tankers and the Germans, a reference to the Ronson cigaret lighter. The German's also called them " Tommy Cookers ". Gotta love that NAZI sense of humor ! Theby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
bobm- You should know better than to expect Gina to reveal her trade secrets. I, on the other hand, have posted product evaluations that you can unearth via the search function. I like Griot's Interior Cleaner. I use Windex Multi-task Orange on dirty vinyl. I like AM's red carpet shampoo. Tarminator , Mean Green and Knight's Spray Nine work on greasy carpet stains.by Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
bobm- Gasoline !!!!!!!!! ?????? Do NOT use gasoline as anything but a fuel. It can ignite from friction, static electricity, a nearby cigarette, a spark from an electric motor, spark plug wire or generator etc. The vapors can travel along the ground or garage floor. And when it goes up, it ignites in a flash. Using gasoline to clean is out of the question. I'm sure OSHA wouldby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bud has posted cautions about IRS rules on who qualifies as an independent contractor... I'd like to note that detailers ought to get fair pay. If they are paid a salary, they are better able to compare their pay to that offered elsewhere. A salary allows them to plan their expenditures better. To offer good pay, you must gross enough. Bob - This alleged " magnifying Glass " effect was used as an advertising point for Durashine, which is supposed to sheet water away. I am not convinced that any magnification the water beads cause is significant. Water beads can supposedly tray acid rain and hold it where it eats into the paint , too. This is stuff I don't worry about. Bottom line : The imby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Profile- IPA does not seem to remove sealants completely ( I tried it ). To find out for sure, I think we should apply sealant to a chalky old single-stage paint panel and try to remove it with IPA. If the chalky appearance returns, the IPA removed the sealant. Keep in mind that some sealants may be more resistant to IPA than others. It is not a perfect solution but I cut the bar into relatively small slices so I don't risk dropping the whole thing. If you drop it, try to cut a thin slice off it, removing the contaminated surface. A dirty clay bar might still be usable for something like rocker panels or brake dust on old rims. A roll of contractor paper from Lowes might be better than newspapers. Jusby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bill : I agree that the advice sounds questionable at best. To really get the car clean, I have always had to touch it with a boar's hair brush, a cotton towel, a wash mitt or something. I don't believe these washing tools scratch the paint unless dirt becomes trapped in them and moved around. I speak from experience, and I can say that the posting being quoted is a hoax : NXT Tech Wax by Meguiar's does not contain abrasives capable of damaging paint. I tested it years ago. I've used Zaino Z-AIO and can say from - drum roll- EXXXXperience !!! that it doesn't cause swirl marks. I use Zaino AIO but not often because it lasts a long time (LOL). A way to scientifically test this guesswork is to apply a given product in back and forth ( straight ) motions to one area of the car and then try applying in circular motions, the time-honored " Karaby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Svr : Pure wax provides depth and will increase gloss by filling imperfections ; A smooth surface shines more. Waxes that contain polishing oils and such can increase gloss by "wetting down " the paint the way you make a blackboard shine if you wet it with water.by Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bill- I think you know darn well that polishing did not cause the damage but why help someone who can't tell one kind of damage from another and refuses to be educated ?by Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bill : People put wax over a sealant to add depth and a little more durability. I prefer multiple coats of Zaino. And SVR : I was half kidding about Zaino being the best product as I have never tested the stuff you use for comparison.by Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts

Profile : People get annoyed with Bill because : 1) He starts a million threads that say pretty much the same thing. 2) He relentlessly blames wax for swirls and scratches, which is so ridiculous that people...well...ridicule it. 3) He insults others freely and not always justly. 4) He ballyhoos his favorite product to the point that we suspect he has some financial interest inby Doug Delmont - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
