OK, I didn't leave for good. I tried asking about sanding techniques in a thread a few weeks ago, but nobody answered it. It seems to be a surface protection forum then! @SVR - Matt, you talk about long term fillers in several posts. Can you elaborate on what you are filling with and how. I use SCDG from RMP, as you know. In my opinion (so far), it doesn't really fill that mby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bill, sorry but I am getting a little worried about your quest and all the re-posting of threads from other forums. You are getting a little obsessive at this stage. You should not be posting emails that somebody probably sent you in confidence. Its very disrespectful. I'm going to remove my bookmark from this forum as there is absolutely nothing positive going on in it anymore due to your oby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
He did all the work with Megs DA. No wonder he added an extra 10 hours onto the detail. I hate that taping up a panel and polishing one side to do a 50/50 shot. Especially where a compound is used. It etches the paint and you have to remove way more paint to get rid of the mark. Very amateurish and "forum-ish" approach. There's a lot of correction detailers out there who learneby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
What's red cool aid? Do you have a steam cleaner? They are great for stain removal. I get most stains out with 160 degree dry steam. Steam is the way forward!by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I'm in Europe! Cheers though. Like I said, the MSDS is available but its obvious not all ingredients are listed. Thanks Bud.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Hi Bud, the MSDS is on their website, but they rarely list every ingredient that is in the product as you all know. Its one of the big USA companies but you are right - I will email them again. I'm on a different continent so sternly following up is not really a priority for me. Who would I report to, btw? Thanks.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Me too. Fantastic pad. GTechniq lambswool pad is very good as well (on rotary) but very short-lived due to the fineness of the wool after milling. But the purple wool pad is terrific on BMW and VAG paintwork.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
RMP Crystal Diamond Glaze with a DA is the best I have used on corrected paint. I know SVR likes C2 over it, but I don't. But I think C2 likes a dry climate like Oz. The carbon-silicon bonding sealants are great. Just my opinion. : )by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Definitely a water-based one, Bud. I tried it again and I seem to be allergic to this particular one. It could be the scent they use in it. I emailed the manufacturer but nothing back yet. Don't know what they can tell me though! I think I just need to switch back to a different brand.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
There are different wool pads out there now. They are not all extremely aggressive. I often use lambswool with my XC3401 and its fantastic. Very controlled polishing and very few, if any, holograms. Then I just finish down with a polishing pad a little bit and the paint is ready to be sealed.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I disagree. It is wash-damage. Look at the metal Just because the pattern appears circular in the lights does not mean that it is caused by a rotary machine. That is the reflective nature of light. It won't reflect "square", only circular on swirl marks. The after-shots are very clear and sharp. He did a good correction and that is the service he gave to his client. Had a look at the MSDS already - it doesn't mention the ingredients, so I will give the mfgr an email.by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
No problem. Just about the whole surface damage thing, in my market here (not in USA) regular cars rarely, rarely get machine buffed. The most they get is the odd sealant applied at a car care centre or dealer. The rest of their life they go to car washes and get all that damage that you see in the paint-correction threads on other forums. Washing is a serious cause of scratches, swirls, mby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Just after I wash a car, while the tyres are still damp I like to spritz a little water-based dressing on the rubber and let it soak in. It darkens the rubber and makes a great base for either more WB dressing or even a solvent based one. But I was using one the other day, and it made my knuckles red! At least I'm sure it was the dressing because it got onto my bare hands (I usually wby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Guys, interested in hearing your wetsanding techniques on bad scratches. I use Mirka Abralon discs, sometimes Megs Unigrit paper with a block. If its a big job, I use an electric DA with the Abralon discs. I was just browsing youtube though and saw where guys are isolating scratches in paint with 3M tape and sanding in the square. I would have thought that could be dangerours - possibly caby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Bill, people are afraid of other people who have strong beliefs - especially if they conflict with their own. You will find it is those who are weak in their convictions that feel the need to lash out and insult and attack. Some of those aftermarket paints you can scratch with your thumbnail. If he let it get into that condition before polishing, he will probably do it again. If I were him, I would just sell the Jeep! We can speculate all we like about pictures. The only real way to tell is to have the paint in front of you to check. : )by Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
He says he did a wipe-down with IPA/Dawn mix. This leaves the paint free of oils and residues. I use that mix myself before applying CQuartz and it does a good job. Besides that, he started with a Dawn - IronX- Dawn sequence of washing. That removes virtually all waxes from the paint. I would suggest that the swirls and fine scratches are just that. It is an after-market paint job and they caby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I love ABC. I've had a few cars in that had cement powder settle and bond to the paint and owners had tried "everything" and everyone trying to get rid of it. 20 Minutes with me and the stuff just washes away with Product B. Lot of over-lapping of subject matter in this forum! SVR, I use a multi-stage cleansing system. Acid neutralising, Alkaline Neutralising, Tar removal, Clay cleansing, Neutral wash. With bad metallic particles (from Brembo's and such) I use IronX Soap Gel. But IronX won't get rid of a lot of contamination that is not metallic so the other steps are vital.( Clay only cleans the very sby Profile Detailer - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
SVR, your post is a little confusing. Why do you say that nothing compares to paint purification followed by machine polishing and then go on to say that it is stupid? Just on a side-note... To play Devils Advocate, is the teflon supposed to be protecting the paint or the sealant? Here is something else of interest for y'all. LOL... Is it or isn't it Bud. Its okay, Bill. On supercars, my primary focus is the look of the car. Wax gives gloss that synthetics don't reach. It just has a different look. Don't know Larry's Article, Bill. Shampoos are different. The best ones are based on coconut oil. Some have stronger cleaning qualities than others. Some have added carnauba or sealant to reinforce the sealant rather than strip it. You just have to look at the amount of shampoos offered by every Detailing supplies manufacturer. Hi Bill I'm not set in my ways. You probably saw my other response. I use all sorts of sealant technology in my workshop. I can't get your product here as I am on a different continent so it would cost me a fortune to get AT-5 putting it into the same expense bracket as high-end carnaubas (for me).
