My judge came with a 3:55 M21 close ratio. Although I do not know how it performed, my opinion is that a 3:55 is a nice inbetween highway and performance gearing. Fun out of the hole, yet not completely taching out at highway speeds.by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
First off, the engine is not original. GTO only came with a 400 in 69. With that said, make sure that it is really a GTO. You can verify with the VIN and better yet PHS documentation. As far as value...shop around, there are a lot of them for sale nation wide. There is a site called onlinetrader.com that you can search 1969 GTO that may give you some comparables. 541 481 2933 is Travis' number. I got it from another thread in here. I would like to think there is a good reason for his not responding, but maybe a call to him will help you guys...by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
It is power disc brakes and factory dash tach and power steering, non AC. It has the parchment (white) interior and looks to have been a maroon color under the black. It also looks to have had a vinyl top...maybe black? It has a running engine in it, code xh ("big" Pontiac motor, 350 HP block) with the 62 heads, which may be original to the car. It has an aftermarket aluminum intake, cby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
I think you probably got accurate advice...I would say it is vapor lock too. There are a few ways to try to eliminate it. First, run a higher octane fuel, the vaproization rate is slower. Try to get the engine compartment temp down. There is no real answer to this, except make sure all radiator fins are clean and free of crud. Make sure you have the fan schroud in place too. No, just sounded like a kid with a new toy at X-mas! That buy back program is sickening, but I guess that is politics for you! Our gas right now is at about $2.00 a gallon right now, but the electricity is a little cheaper. I have made a lot of west coast friends thanks to the web and this forum. I will definately keep it in mind when I am ready to buy some major rust free parts!by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
You west coast guys just have to rub it in, don't you "a little bit of rust..." I have to say, living here in WI, I am jealous! But then, there is no threat of my state falling off of the US Sounds like you got a great deal! I find it ironic that I just bought a 69 in rough shape, 4 spd car with an XH & 62 heads. Not original from my undersanding, but still a 350 HP pluby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Here is a nice used one. Ebay item #7911221726. Not sure where you are, but this is in PA.by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Mike - What is the production date of the engine? And, have you verified if it is a WS or a YS?by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
What is the difference? That will help me understand what I am really in need of...by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
There could be alot of things, you are going to have to do some research. Things that quickly come to mind for me are valve sizes (73 are probably smaller than the older heads), cam lift and duration (again, maybe lobed down a bit). I am again guessing that bore and stroke may be the same, but pistons may be different...flat top, dished, etc. Emissions certainly didn't hit hard in 73, butby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
I guess you have to ask yourself what you are looking for... Do you care if it is an original restoration? Are you concerned of resale value? What was the original interior color? What color is the outside?by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Rob - surprisingly, the frame is great! The body mounts all look good. I think my car was more a victim of sitting under a tree somewhere and rusted from the top down. Seals leaked, windows leaked, and the rest rotted. It is an Eastern car and they are as subject to rust as Wisconsin cars. It was last registered in 1975, so that is why I feel that sitting took it's toll. I do believe tby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Simple question....Are the deck lids the same for a 69 two door GTO as they are for the 69 Convertible?by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
If it is solid , complete and straight...that is a pretty good price. If you are looking to go as original as possible, let me know if you want to give up the 69 engine. If it is the right code, I would be willing to purchase it.by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Whew...that is a lot of information! OK...let me see if I have this right: I have a 1969 GTO Judge, Close ratio M-21 4 speed with Ram Air 400 that was built on Feb 23, 1969. Lets say that I will be looking for a trans that was built in Dec of 68. So the code will look like: N T28 B B PQ 12345678 (N= M21 Muncie, T28= Dec 28. B= 4 speed, B= close ratio, PQ= 400 Ram Air, 12345678= last 8 of VIby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Is what I am trying to figure out is if I go to a swap meet and find a transmission, how do I read the code on it to know if it is a close ratio 4 spd that was build in late Dec of 68, Jan/Feb of 69? I have seen all of the coding data on web sites, but just can't figure out and visualize what it would look like on an actual transmission. So, what you mentioned isn't really what I am lby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Travis - Do you have a phone number that I can reach you at? I can be e-mailed directly at tony.walton@teldta.com. Get a hold of me, I definately need some sheet metal! I would also like to talk with you about the skins. I have thought about it, but was not sure how to do them.by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Look on e-bay. There are a few used ones posted out there right now.by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
I have found a bunch of information about engine codes, head codes, intake codes, etc, and even transmission codes. I am having a hard time understanding the manual transmission codes and was hoping for some help. I have a 69 GTO Judge, 4 spd close ratio trans. I am trying to find something close to the build date of the car that was mid Feb. (Anything that is late Dec is acceptable for me)by md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Travis - Well put....almost sounds like it was right out of the bookby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Travis - What are the date codes on the 69 #48 heads? Thanks - Tonyby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
WJ - It is worth what you want to pay....I say that because I just bought a 69 Judge PHS documented. It needs....everything but the roof! All panels are rusted, interior is ok, no engine, no trans, no ram air hood, and all judge traits are gone. I didn't even get a title & paid 2k for it. Why? It's a Judge. Your chance sounds to be in much better shape than mine. I would guby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
OK...so I have started to collect parts for my 69 Judge RA III. I am waiting for a restoration book that would probably tell me, but I was hoping someone here could help. First off, I am trying to go as original as possible. My car was delivered in Feb of 69. The intake I found is PN 9794234 and the production date is k148. Can anyone verify if this is the correct PN for a RA III intake. Alby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Travis - sounds like we grew up the same....I credit all I do to my Dad too. In fact, he took the venture to PA with me to get the car. It was great! Is there a sight that I can post pics? If not, give me your e-mail address and I will send them to you. The only pitfall to finding a donor out your way is the expense of getting it back to WIS. It would easily be $1000 if I came to get it orby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Here is the history with the car as I know it right now. It was originally purchased and resided in Pennsylvania. My guess is the engine was blown and pulled and the car sat (It was last registered in 1976) The odometer shows 75 K, based on the last regestration, I believe it to be correct. (Still trying to find out, though). I am also guessing that the rotting was due to sitting. Once it gby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
Travis - I was waiting to hear from you! I know you do a lot of this work, so I wanted to hear your thoughts. You are out on the west coast, correct? Not sure what you get for rust out there, here is what this Judge needs... Complete interior floor, including under rear seats Floor that extends into the firewall Complete trunk Full quarters Inner and outer wheel wells, rear Rockers....skins aby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
You both make points that have me on the fence. Harry - to your point, I would have a true Judge, but with aftermarket, Non-GM panels...is that acceptible as a true Judge? I would definately feel better about it being original, by putting the time and work into it, but Dean makes a good point too. A Lemans tub is more original than the aftermarket panels, but still isn't "original&quby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
OK....I already know there are mix of opions of what a "real restoration" is, but I have to ask for some opinions. I have a 69 PHS documented Judge that was saved from a junk yard. IT IS ROUGH, but is a Judge. It literally needs every panel on the car except the roof! My question is, do I spend the time and money welding in aftermarket panels to make it all solid again, or do I findby md1twal3 - Pontiac GTO Forum
