Depth, real or imagined, appears to be a result manifested by one's choice of wax. But isnt "depth" also characteristic of the paint process used by the manufacturer? Or more likely a combination of the two?by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Do certain waxes attract dust more than others? (have a black Volvo) Presently using Zymol...will be trying p21s in future.by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Due to a excellent review in Consumer Reports a while back, I elected to use their wax for my new black Volvo. Being a newbie to the better products, I have nothing to compare it to. Nevertheless, I feel the results I'm getting are outstanding. Subsequently, I purchased their quick-detail spray, wheel cleaner and protectant, interior protectant, their cleaner, wash, and even their VERY softby Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Many thanx to the following: ------members of this forum for their explanations and advice. ------ the detail man at the Volvo dealership ------the technician at CarCare for his detailed explanation ------and Vic the former detail shop owner who I just met at a party yesterday. -------and to the manufacturers of Armour-All Worth noting that Volvo does warn the dealers to stay away from the trimby Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
A former detail shop owner insisted I try the basic Armour-All, regardless of what solvents and dressings I already tried. I was stunned by the immediate results. What a relief! I was advised a additional application or two may be needed while the chalky debris fades away, which I was assured will, regardless of the deep pores in the pastic. Whew!by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
There are 5 coats of Zymol wax on my new black Volvo done with much exuberance. Too much I'm afraid. Been trying for weeks to remove the dried up wax on the plastic trim. My latest product that fails is One Grand Tar, Gum and Wax Remover. The chalky white stuff looks terrible. Yes I'm desparate for help. Help!by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
On my 10 day old black Volvo, I went with Cleaner-Sealent-Wax(2 coats) and it looks outstanding. Not even a swirl, but I failed to mask off the plastic body trim and now its a mess. Scrubbing with plain water did almost nothing. How do I remove wax, etc. from the trim? Thanks much.by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
In anticipation of my non-metallic black Volvo I had ordered, I learned so much in this forum by asking many questions and lots of lurking. Well today I picked up my beaut, and frankly I have to say the dealer prep turned out perfect. I'm scared to touch this car. Anyway, I got my cleaner, my sealent, and some expensive wax from Zymol and some quality toweling, and am ready to go. As time gby Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
You should know by now that the word Calif. car scratcher is taboo to this board.>>>>>>> ----------------- I do know that. Thats why I'm asking if the Wool Duster would be a better choice, or is this product also taboo?by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
The recent Zymol catalog describes the Natural Wool Duster as being "the gentile alternative to dirt-collecting waxed cotton".I assume they're referring to the California Car Duster, which has been implicated here as causing scratches. This sounds better...whaddya think?by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
OK......"sealent" it is. Thanks guys. My new car and retirement occur at about the same time. Plenty of time for auto maintenance (and good exercise to boot).by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I'm planning on waxing my soon to be delivered black Volvo about once a month with a "pure" wax from Zymol. They also recommend waxing monthly. They go on to recommend using a cleaner every 5 to 6 months. This confuses me. I thought the wax bonds better after using a cleaner, rather than directly going from washing to waxing. So how often do I use the cleaner? Monthly,as a pre-wax?by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I plan to instruct the dealer NOT to detail my black Volvo s-60 when I take delivery in about 4 weeks. But I'm not sure of the first step (after the wash). Should I be using a cleaner initially, or go right to a waxing or perhaps a cleaner/wax product? I understand the manufacturers apply a product that protects the car while standing that may require a cleaner before the waxing.by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
I have yet to try using the California Water Blade as an alternative for drying, but its my bet that this group would recommend avoiding its use entirely. What say?by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Anothe "detailing" website states that several European carmakers recommend washing with only "pure" water. Where I live we are only allowed to rinse; no detergents allowed. I expect delivery on my black Volvo s60 in about 5 weeks and plan to initially use Zymol Cleaner/Wax after washing with "pure" water. Am I asking for trouble? Would I be grinding the dirt into thby Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
Waiting delivery of my new car; a black non-metallic. Does the paint have to "dry"? If so, how long must I wait before it gets its first waxing? Thanks loads.by Steve Solomon - Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Experts
