The 1971 GTO is distinguished by a hood featuring two large forward air intakes. Some sanity had arrived with respect to the horsepower ratings, and the "net" standard was introduced. "The Judge" was discontinued. Pollution standards were starting to have a severe affect on engine output as compression ratios were lowered to accommodate unleaded fuel.
