Um, you're not supposed to do that. During The Tour, a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C passes a 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 on a curve, crossing a double yellow line.
Above: Maybe it was my imagination, but I could swear that the Best of Show celebration staff included more streamers in the package than in previous years.
I had my jacket off and when I put it back on after the Best of Show ceremony, I neglected to remove the streamers. It was only after I walked a bit that I realized they were still attached, probably because people were pointing at me and laughing. I hung with that for a while - odd, because I'm not the sort of person who likes to call attention to himself - and had this photo taken.
The second 1981 Series III Countach built (chassis 1121314) and upon completion, it was shipped to Monte Carlo as an "Intervention" or pace car for the 1981 Monaco Grand Prix. Police lights and graphics added up to a frightful package.
Something new for the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours: Bomb sniffing dogs. No word as to any specific threat.
Also new for 2023: Nice signage on the field.
1963 Corvette Grand Sport sn 001, driven by owner Harry Yeaggy. It was entered as part of the Postwar Sports Racing class. It did not achieve a class award, which, in your authors opinion, was an oversight.
E M B A R R A S S I N G!! The driver of this 1988 McLaren MP4/4-2 Formula One Race Car drove it up on the ramp and promptly stalled it. Since it was quite loud the whole field heard it and let out a collective groan. The car placed second in the McLaren 60th Anniversary class.
The McLaren F1 road car (Wikipedia page), always wonderful to see. When introduced in 1992, it became famous for being the world's fastest production car, reaching 240.1 mph and for winning outright the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. This 1995 McLaren F1 Coupe, owned by Chris and Ann Cox of Chapel Hill, North Carolina took third place in the McLaren 60th Anniversary class.
This is what makes the Pebble Beach Concours special: Often participants will be in period dress which reflects what would have been worn "back in the day". In this case, the Stutz Bearcat was a series of smaller, lighter versions of the standard Stutz passenger car.
2023 Best of Show
2023 Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K, Shown by by Jim Patterson of the Patterson Collection. Prior to this win, the marques of Bugatti and Mercedes-Benz were tied with the most Best of Show wins at Pebble Beach. This win puts Mercedes-Benz in the lead, with 10 wins in total.
The RM Auto Restoration crew was justifiably proud of their work and Best of Show award. The Mercedes-Benz Classic Center also participated in the restoration.
