"The Tour" as it is known, is a recent Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event. The purpose was to emphasize that the cars are meant to be driven, not just displayed and serves to answer criticism that the concours is only for museum pieces. It is held on Thursday before the main Sunday event and runs through portions of the famous 17 mile drive, various nearby mountains and valleys and Highway One. All cars entered in the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance are eligible to participate in The Tour. Spectators are invited to view the Tour at key points along the route.
Despite meticulous preparation, breakdowns do occur on The Tour. As originally designed, the intended life span of these cars was usually much shorter than the fifty or so years that many have been running. Keeping the cars alive and healthy requires more than money; you also need passion, dedication, patience and tenacity.

Most of the photographs featured were taken on Pacific Coast Highway (Route 1) at a place we have dubbed "Pollock Corner". It's an excellent location for photography, offering a number of vantage points and minimal background interference. There also is (usually) a mound of dirt / asphalt / etc. stored by construction companies for projects in the area which, if your willing to do some climbing, offers a commanding view. There is no address, but the location can be found using the GPS coordinates 36.332098,-121.885643 . See you there!!
Why do we like Pollock Corner? Because it offers distinctly different yet spectacular views for photography. Each of these four photos, and most of the photos on this page and the slide show were taken from the same spot or a spot within a reasonably short walk. The background cannot be beat and there are no other photographers to spoil the shot.
The Tour Starts at the intersection of Portola Road and Stevenson Drive in Pebble Beach. It's not far from the Pebble Beach Lodge, the site of the Concours. In past years after the tour, the cars parked along Ocean Ave in Carmel-By-The-Sea where the participants enjoyed lunch and the spectators could get up close and personal with the cars. The good news? It's all free!
