1952 Ferrari 375 F1

Ferrari built four cars to contest the May 1952 Indy 500. Only one qualified, and was driven by the very capable Alberto Ascari. The 134.328 mph only earned it the 25th place on the starting grid. Ascari was able to reach eighth place before a rear wheel hub broke and ended their chances. The fact that the 375 F1 was not purpose built for the famous 500 mile race turned out to be a disadvantage.

1950 Ferrari 166M Barchetta

Produced between 1948 and 1950, the Barchetta was essentially the first Ferrari destined for the street. Engine was a single overhead camshaft 2.0 liter V12. Production quantity: 39. The Barchetta was delivered from the factory as a running chassis and customers would then have a body built by the company of their choice. The Barchetta pictured here has a body built by Carrozzeria Touring.

Italian translation: "Barchetta" = "Small Boat"; "Carrozzeria" = "Auto Body".
