There are two marvels illustrated here. One is that the Y-Job top mechanism, which is almost 70 old, still works. The other is that although it was designed and built almost 70 years ago, it looks and functions just like a modern day power convertible top.

Typical road cars in the '30s had 16" wheels, but Harley Earl used special 13" wheels to help lower the Y-Job. The liberal use of horizontal chrome helped to visually lower the car as well. When it wasn't on the show circuit, the Y-Job served as Harley Earl's personal car.
